Schlabach's Top 25 - 2 Big East Teams Check In

I don't envy colleague Mark Schlabach's job of trying to identify a Top 25 in early May. It's hard enough to do that in September.

But Schlabach is up to the task and issues his post-spring Top 25 today on ESPN.com. Two Big East teams made the cut.

Schlabach has Pittsburgh No. 13 saying the Panthers "might be poised to clear the last hurdle" and win the Big East. The defending league champions, Cincinnati, check in at No. 18, a little lower than Schlabach had the Bearcats before the spring. He says defensive questions and a difficult nonconference schedule are concerns.

I think both of these rankings are fair and about right at this time. I would add Connecticut and West Virginia to the back end of the Top 25, especially over a team like Texas A&M that has done a whole lot of nothing of late.

But that's what these early rankings are for: causing good debates.

david aka the TYZ will become famous soon enough
If you're ranking teams based on who's best, how does a team's schedule factor in before you've played? I assume this is a projection on where teams will be ranked at the end of the year. Still stupid.

This is why rankings are pointless. At least someone is showing us some love before the season starts.
