Cronin extension through 2021

While this is good news, in reality I think it really doesn't mean anything. If he wanted to leave he would and could regardless of his contract status. I don't even know why college coaches bother with contracts or more so how they can be considered contracts. It does show our commitment to him and that goes a long way. I also think that by him agreeing to and signing the new contract that he has assurances of the other things that he wants to see the university do for the program. So again, this is a good thing.

Mick isn't going anywhere unless there is an outright refusal to invest and it seems the university is going to make the effort to do just that.

Wow!! That would be great news. That's about a 15M buyout (although I don't know exactly how those work).

Assuming this gets inked...it probably means Cronin is happy with the university addressing other issues like budget and arena as well.

Looking at 2013 numbers this would put Cronin in the top 15 in salary

I don't think he is either. My point was more that if he so chose to that this contract wouldn't do anything to stop him. The only point I've ever heard that makes sense for coaches being extended so far out is it lets recruits know you're going to be there for the long term, which again is at the whim of any coach to leave. I think this stupid 5/3rd renovation talk has got me riled up today.

Tommy G said Bohn had nothing to do with it; Ono and the board of trustees have been working on it for awhile. Bohn still seems to be a fan though!
