Some good points in this thread.
Will Broome live up to the hype or he be another in the long line of practice all stars. Jake does have handles and I believe used to be a PG. The thing that Jake lacks is the killer instinct, he would disappear in games last year and Terry would comment that he would not even square to the rim to see if he could attack. I think the guy I want is JC. Cronin has stated many times that he is a gamer and gets stronger as the game goes on. He has a strong feel for the game, a good IQ, good shooter and has a confidence about him.

The only thing about J.C. that worries me is the mid-range shots-when we are playing on the road and he puts his head down and goes to the rim homeritis will have him in foul trouble- would love for him to pull up for a 8 footer.

Guys yes Evans can dribble the ball but he needs a lot of work using it to get fouled or get to the rim. That is what I mean by improving his handle.

love JC's game. More then anyone on the team I'm excited to see how he progresses in year two.

I am watching the same player. The one who defers to others, settles for jumpers and rarely gets to the rim. If he has handles he needs to use them to get fouled on occasion. When you see him do that consistently let me know.

Shaq was able to get to the rim but rather then draw contact he tried to avoid it. Evans does not get to the rim. What I am hoping to see from Evans this year is a real boost in his game coming from transition baskets. He is good in the open floor going to the hoop on the break. With Broome running the floor I'm hoping to see him getting many easy baskets.

I've said this before, but Evans getting to the rim should come without the ball in the halfcourt, by getting offensive rebounds, and by getting out in transition. The everyone stand there while he tries to create off the dribble in the halfcourt thing hasn't led to any kind of efficient offense. Plus he's a great shooter. I don't get how him getting to the rim has become the thing that everyone automatically says.

So I definitely agree with you on the transition part. He's great at that. He can improve some things he's not great at, but it'd also be stupid not to play to his strengths. And when people act like we desperately need him to beat guys off the dribble left and right in the halfcourt, I get confused. That's not who he is now, and it won't be who he is as a pro.

Head down and to the rim has been Mick's last possession strategy for some time now, I only expect that to be reinforced with a bully ball player like JC this season.

If I were a betting man I'd say final possession plays start with JC with options to hit Evans on the outside for a jumper or get it down low to Gary. I think in the majority of those situations you'll see head down to the rim looking for contact and a foul call.

Evans was third on the team in FTA last season, two behind 2nd place and 7 behind Clark who was 1st. So he is getting fouled in the act, no way he gets 112 FT's on jump shots and not driving. He shot 56 FT's his Frosh year, exactly half from his Soph campaign.
