They don't have to shift every team anyway. If they are on the fence between 2 teams getting say a 3 or a 4 seed... just switch the two teams. |

If USF wins they simply replace the last at-large team and give them a 12 seed or whatever. It's a lot easier to do that than making 2 separate brackets. 3 and 4 seeds are a lot trickier to play with considering protected seeding.

I agree they will probably have the bracket set by the time our tourney is over. But it would be very unfair if they allowed results from other tourneys to influence seeding in any way...but not allow ours to do the same. Again, last year, I think the result wasn't going to change their seeding so they didn't need to consider it. It's only when you are trying to determine between two teams getting the same seed that a tourney would influence the bracket. If they determine the result won't matter then who cares. |

If I can find the article I will but I forget the search I did. I was looking at the new quadrant changes at the time...but the article was about misconceptions about what the committee does or does not consider during selection. |

Q.. I'm at the SEC tournament, which starts Wednesday. The championship game is Sunday afternoon. Won't be over till probably 5:15, 5:30. How impactful can whatever happens in a championship game that late in the week or in the process affect what the Committee's decisions are? RON WELLMAN: It can have an impact obviously depending on which teams are in that championship game. The Committee will be prepared for that eventuality if it does occur by having a number of contingency plans, whether it be selection, seeding or bracketing. There have been a number of years where there have been four or five brackets active very late in the game, whether it be the SEC championship or other reasons. But the Committee will be well prepared for any possibility late Sunday afternoon. |

Thanks for that. It's definitely a guessing game trying to figure out how much weight the committee will give to certain things. Conference tournaments are no exception.
It's anecdotal, but I think our own history supports the idea that conference tournaments are important. I don't think we get a 6 seed in 2012 without beating Georgetown and Syracuse. We were actually a 7 on bracketmatrix that year. We might have got a protected seed in 2014 if we hadn't lost to UConn when SK's layup rolled all around the rim and out. Bracketmatrix had us as a 4 seed that year. That would have been a huge difference. Since we weren't protected, we got shipped to Spokane. |

I would imagine making the championship game would have to make people take notice. |
