Per Koch, UC is close to announcing a 7-year extension. Just posted on Twitter.

Awesome! Definitely good news for the program.
And, how did Koch "break" this news? Usually he writes about it a week or two after it happens. My world just got turned upside down. LOL |

Per Andy Katz, it's official, as of this morning. 7 years, $2.2m/year. Compared to 2013 coaches salaries, that puts him as T-18th highest, with Oklahoma's Lon Kruger.

Good for Mick, well deserved, nice to see this get done. To me the money per year isn't the important part of this contract, its the other things they hopefully agreed to, infrastructure, renovations, private jet time, assistant salaries, etc that will put this program over the top.

This is great to hear and great for our university.
Also, Heres an idiot Connor Tailford @DatDude_CT · 1h Mick Cronin is one of the worst basketball coaches and only cared for one player who's gone now. So let's sign him for 7 years. Cincinnati.. |

I saw that comment too. I believe he was also ripping Cronin for playing Titus more than Shaq last year, even though Titus was better in almost every statistical category....

We now have 2 coaches in the big 2 sports that are in the Top 20 nationally in terms of their pay. I think it's clear that when UC decides on something for their sports programs they can find the money to make it happen.
I'm constantly reading on these boards how our athletic program is broke yet we've got 2 high paid coaches, a high paid AD and we're spending close to 100 million to upgrade Nippert. That's all encouraging. I'm hoping that Mick got some sort of assurances on the future of the basketball facilities during the negotiation of this contract. I think that UC will take their time figuring out what the best course of action is for that future but once a decision is made the money will be made available. That being said congrats to Mick. It's gotta be a great feeling to land your dream job in your home town and now get paid very very well to perform that job. I've never been his biggest fan but there's certainly value in the stability this extension brings. |
