Am I a bad fan for putting down 5$ on Xavier at 250-1 strictly for an emotional hedge?

Fwiw, my futures are
50$ on UC at 66-1
5$ on X at 250-1
15$ on Miami at 50-1

Basically lottery tickets but should be fun sweats.

Instead of a spread, you are taking the team straight up to win. Since they were the underdog, it paid at 4/1 (same thing as +400).

The $line number is how much you get per $100 bet. So bet $100 to win $400 on +400 (I don't bet nearly that much per game but everything is on that scsle). And if you take a favorite, at say -240, you have to bet $240 to win $100.

At 250-1, Xavier is good value. They are really good, especially on offense. At the very least, I like watching them play. I think at least one of the team's you bet on will make the Sweet 16.

Ha yeah I agree. If these sites operated like offshore sites or sportsbokks with gambling licenses, it wouldn't be much different than player props. But they don't. So I get why states are banning it. I know Nevada banned it, but basically just said they need to play by the same rules.
