Yeah, last year we weren't ranked to start the season this year we were ranked. I think overall people just know we are better than last year.

I don't want to start splitting hairs here or start comparing eras or anything but 2002 was the highest finish AP poll according to Sports Reference in the Bob Huggins era...as well his lowest loss total (4). Of course that includes tourney but I'm just saying... We lost 4 games that year and Kmart's sr year. I am not wanting to compare the teams other than to say it's not that easy to finish a season with 4 losses. The best teams in the Huggins era lost 2 or 3 in regular season. Huggins teams often won the conference tourney which means he may have never finished with more than 2-3 losses regular season...assuming 1 loss in the dance. It's pretty darn hard to bust through a season with 4 losses even in our current conference. I think we played in a better conference back then but what we are doing the last couple of years is pretty good don't you think? |

That was the Huggins way. Dominate the regular season ,get a high seed then lose in the second round. I think his last 8 years we had 1 sweet 16. 96-97: #3 seed upset in second round to #6 seed 97-98- #2 upset to #10 West Virginia 98-99 #3 upset by #6 temple 99-00: #2 upset by #7 00-01: #5 sweet 16 but lost to #1 Stanford 01-02: #1 lost to #8 ucla 02-03: #8 lost to 9 seed 03-04: #4 lost to #5 seed 04-05: #7 lost to #2 Shows you how much an early career final four buys you because we were elite at getting upset. Just need to work on getting the respect from the committee like hugs used to and making noise in the tourney |

I can't believe we were #141 in 2007. That's a miracle. I've never looked that up before I don't think. I would've guessed we were in the 200s.

And the"upset" years we played an 8 seeded UCLA that had I believe 3 NBA guys (kapono, gadzuric, and Barnes) where as we were led by Logan/Stokes who never really made it at the next level despite incredible college seasons. The other upsets, I don't have to rehash for every body, but there was the tipped blocked banked in buzzer beater 3, the tackle on Darnell Burton vs Iowa State that wasn't called that would've effectively iced the game. Oh and our NPOY breaking his leg in the conference tournament. The year we lost to illinois that was a Deron Williams team. |
