Couple random thoughts
Broome turned old-school KJ on a couple possessions and just stood there with the ball for several seconds. Broome, Evans, and Cumberland probably thrive the most in the faster free-flowing games. They need to figure out how to make a bigger impact in games like last night. Cumberland was at least aggressive. I don't like how games like last night always seem to find us though. We can't let bad teams dictate the flow. That's on our PGs. I think the thing I underrated about Caupain is, say what you want about his style, but he always found a way to get the game into that style. Broome cannot allow himself to be taken out of the action. I don't care what anyone says, but Evans and Cumberland combining for 4 3 pt attempts is not good for us. Last time we had a physical game like this (UConn AAC Tourney), we were really flat the next day vs SMU. We need to use our depth against Richmond, crank things up, and run them out of gas. Any time Moore gets a clean look at 3, I feel like it's going in.

I haven't seen Brooks as the most improved player so far. I barely noticed that he got 16 minutes last night. He and Washington combined for 6 boards in 40 minutes last night. Considering it was a physical game, I expect them to be more competitive for rebounds. Clark always manages to find a way.

as pointed out though that wasn't a slow game. we were just awful on offense and the game had so many stoppages it felt slow. more possessions than the coppin state game and 1 less than the western carolina game.

It is much easier to slow a game down than it is to speed a game up!

It wasn't a fast game bc it had no flow. That's all I mean by that. It played like a half court slugfest.

everything about last nights game kinda showed up in the black and red game. brooks struggled vs more athletic bigs, pg play left a lot to be desired, moore has the more college ready game compared to williams. i really hoped i was just being a pessimist but it sucked watching it happen last night. |

yeah and imagine what its going to look like when we play teams like smu. its gonna be a slugfest with nowhere near the amount of possessions as last night.

I get wanting to shoot a lot of free throws. That's very good. Very, very good. I don't get why it has to be compared to 3 point attempts though. I mean, I get it in just the simple terms of not wanting to just pass the ball around forever and Jack up a bad 3. But that's not the only kind of 3. We're a good passing team and high assist team. We're shooting a good % from 3 this year for a reason. And it's bc they're coming from passes and are rhythm shots. That's a very important part of the game.
Free throws good does not mean 3s bad. We have 3 guys who should be taking bare minimum of 3 3s each per game imo. And Evans and Cumberland should probably be at 5 each. |
