I always thought John Williamson was tough around the rim.

He was but Gates dominated NBA guts when he went up against them. Hibbert, Blair, Florida St, Syracuse, Louisville big man got destroyed by gates.

Destroyed? Absolutely not. Gates had his moments, and often held his own against some of the better big men in the Big East, but he never dominated anyone. I remember some games, like the Georgetown game, where he would explode against someone like Henry Sims, but i scarcely remember any domination. Mostly disappointment that he didn't do that.

Florida St game he did his thing against arguably the best frontcourt in college that year. Big tine players show up in big time games and I can.vouch Yancy showed up more than not.

Gates finished his Senior year on a positive note, there's no arguing that (Despite his disappearing act vs. OSU in his final game). But over the course of his career, he did not play consistently at that level. In fact, he wasn't even close. There were many who would have been fine if he would have been kicked off after the brawl.

Yancy was a good player, sure. But he was far from a dominating presence.

Sorry to hijack this thread everybody.

Sk, Vaughn, Stevenson were all great here but had inconsistent moments like Yancy. Against the best and in big games Gates took his game to another level. Yes we all wanted more from him but you can't deny he held his own against the best.

Yea, he really dominated them. First of all, he didn't even play against Hibbert, considering Hibbert was in the NBA when Gates got to UC. Second of all, Gates played against Blair once. The stats:

Gates - 25 min, 4 points, 1 rebound
Blair - 30 min, 17 points, 7 rebounds

You talk out of your ass so much. How do you not feel like a total clown?
