OT - Old Sports Illustrated Issues
I came across my old Sports Illustrated of LeBron James in high school and decided to start a collection of Old SI's.
So far I have: LeBron in HS Danny Fortson 1996 Reds 1975 World Series Reds 1990 World Series Royals 2015 World Series Magic Johnson at Michigan State 1978 Darryl Strawberry 1984 (my sister is going to get it autographed for me bc shes going to see him speak in a couple weeks) Anyone have any recommendations for other issues I should get? I'm hanging them all in frames in my office. I'm going to do them in chronological order so it can kind of be a sports history wall. And also, if anyone has any old ones saved, I'll buy them from you. But they have to be of significance. Thanks! |

(4/18/05) - Tiger wins Masters number 4 Pat Tillman (5/3/04) - Pat Tillman remembered for his unbelievable sacrifice Dream Team (2/18/91) - Olympic Dream Team Gordie Howe (3/18/57) - Mr. Hockey's only appearance on the cover I believe Paul Brown (8/12/68) - Before Bengals inaugural season Brandi Chastain (7/19/99) - USA Women's Soccer Team wins Gold. Check out this site. You can buy any issue and have it framed. Seems reasonably priced too. http://www.sicovers.com/ Edit: I would add this one too: Ickey Woods (1/16/89) - Bengals going to the Super Bowl. Last edited by JasonS; 09-12-2017 at 10:12 AM. |

Some I liked were: Marge Schott smoking a cigarette. Chad Johnson With Bengal stripes painted on his arm. Chris Sabo from 1990 the cover reads "RED October" Dieon Sanders sliding Hunter Green (Reds just selected him 2nd overall at 17 years old) 100MPH A couple Ken Griffey Jr and Joey Votto If you google "Cincinnati Sports Illustrated Covers" then click on images you can scroll through quite a bit and get some ideas. |

Great suggestions...I added the Ickey Woods, Deion Sanders, and Dream Team ones.
I think I will do most Cincinnati sports ones...or at least something from every era. For the Tiger, Tyson, Griffey, Bonds, Serena, Phelps, Brady, Bolt, Magic, Bird, Jordan typpe legends I want to get their first appearance on the magazine. The Miracle one, the first ever issue, the first swinsuit issue, and several others are on my list to ask for as gifts. |

Fortson is shirtless, and they have like a road map (in lights?), and it says the road to the FF runs thru Cincinnati. I have all the game programs from each site on the way to the FF and the FF, which I would consider selling. Dayton, Kansas City, then Minneapolis. |

There's a 2004 Griffey cover titled "Welcome Back" and the 2000 cover "How the Reds got Griffey".
Both must haves for me in any Cincinnati themed SI Cover collection. |

Got my 1975 Reds World Series Sports Illustrated..and my goodness are there a lot of cigarette ads. What in the world was going on back then? Were people just lighting up cigs every second of their lives?
