Edit-ohhhh I think I know what happened. I moved my response to this thread so it wouldn't derail the Culver thread. Sorry. Last edited by jacobkdoyle; 05-22-2015 at 09:00 AM. |

This! it is all about the Jimmy and Joe's (at least mostly), not the X's and O's. I know all about St. Johns, and Memphis, and I appreciate Mick's bench coaching. But we need the talent. That is the most important thing to get to the next and higher levels

We need a coach with ohio connections. Like a Kerry coombs type recruiting. Been saying this past two yrs. Its time to leave NY/NJ area for a while unless its a G. We need hit Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Ky and Michigan for talent.

I don't really care where a recruit comes from, but I do agree that it is easier to convince a more local kid to play close to home than it is to pick players out of other markets. We used to recruit Indiana pretty well and now that has dried up. I'm kind of agreeing with the philosophy of recruiting local, especially when your rounding out your roster. We have two scholarships available. I'm pretty certain based on track record will will hold one for the coveted 2016 class and come next April we will hold one for the all important 2017 class and so on and so on. If you find a Gary Clark in North Carolina or a Troy Caupain in Virginia or a Sean Kilpatrick in New York and they are "Bearcat type players" that fit your system then by all means go after them. At the same time there are players of that caliber here in Ohio and the midwest so go after them as well. But when you're filling your roster with projects and role players you can find those anywhere. Recruit our backyard and it will help generate new fans and excitement. There are competent, fundamentally sound players that would jump at the chance to play for UC within 100 mile radius of here. Go watch the MAC. They turn out some pretty good players and even land guys in the NBA and those guys are right here in the midwest and more than likely landed in the MAC because the top programs didn't want them. Say what you will about where Cincinnati stands in the grand scheme of college basketball but even the most pessimistic person will acknowledge we are higher than any MAC school.
