Thumbs up

Friedl gets a 70 on the 20-to-80 scouting scale for his speed, with good line-drive gap power and excellent basestealing skills. He brings leadoff-type skills and can play up the middle, a highly sought combination. After a very strong turn with Team USA this summer, Friedl would have been high on every team's follow list had he still been around for the 2017 Draft.
The signing gives the Reds another hitter in what had been a very position player-heavy Draft class. Cincinnati took Tennessee third baseman Nick Senzel No. 2 overall, then followed up with toolsy high school outfielder Taylor Trammell at No. 35. In the second round, the Reds added Clemson catcher Chris Okey.

Friedl is a nice addition. His signing came out of no where. Doug Gray has a nice article up on him at redsminorleague.com. The top 3 picks from this years draft have all gotten off to nice starts. Senzel looks like the real deal. Reds starting to add some hitting to the system to go along with a bunch of nice arms. Trading Bruce is only going to help stock the system.

Smile curve ball

In the hours leading up to the Deadline, reports centered on the Reds also acquiring outfielder Brandon Nimmo in the deal. But an apparent medical holdup with another player proposed in the trade forced the teams to rework the deal. Jocketty said the player with the issue was not Nimmo.
"Herrera was the guy we wanted all along," Jocketty said. "We talked about both of them. We liked the potential for Herrera long term. We liked Nimmo too, but we've got some outfield depth and not as much middle-infield depth." DID YOU CATCH THIS ? Great move on Jockerty. He new there was a medical report on the third prospect, waited till Redick went to the Dodgers and at the last minute pulled the Bruce trade off the table knowing now the Mets really wanted Bruce. last 20 minutes they got what they wanted. Brewers wanted Herrera for Lecory and the Mets said no that he will be their future second baseman. GOOD JOB WALT!!!
