Kay--NFL?

Is Kay the best NFL QB prospect UC has had?

We have had some good QB's lately but have we ever had a QB with the size, stature, arm, accuracy, intelligence, and quick release as Kay?

In terms of NCAA performance we have had some pretty good QB's but from an NFL combine perspective Kay seems a lot more like the NFL prototype QB to me.

What do you think?

I will say no. I don't have a ton of reasons why I say no but I just don't see it.

B. Kay...

Here is what I offer to your NFL team...

I have a pretty good arm...not the best and not the worst compared to other NFL QB's. My release time is above average when ranked against many NFL QB's. My accuracy has been well above average in NCAA. My height is probably average to starting NFL QB's. My body can take a hit probably better than most NFL QB's. I am fairly mobile...at least average.

I can't really comment on my intelligence but I think it's pretty good. I think I am a pretty good leader and my teamates don't hate me. I will play through injury because I want to be out there...so I definitely earn lead by example points.

What is it that I can't offer your team?

Just to play devils advocate..what makes Kay better than the SMU QB? I could see Kay maybe being a backup QB in the NFL at best.

Kay's arm is shot. He is playing through pain, and he has great QB makeup and is a darn good QB, but he would really need extensive surgery to have a fighting shot at the NFL. Look what happened to Pike, his arm got all screwed up also.

I am not saying Kay would/should be a starter in the NFL...just that he would grade well in an NFL combine. Perhaps the SMU guy would too IDK.

I am not sure I agree here but let's say we are talking about a Kay (pre shot arm which seems to still be pretty good). Or let's say he gets surgery and is back to normal.

How does he grade out at the NFL combine with his normal abilities?

Reminds me of Pike

I would add that Pike would grade very poor at the NFL combine...and probably did. An NFL team took a chance on him. That shot was based on college performance and not on his NFL prototype QB attributes.

I doubt that Russell Wilson graded out all that well because of his height...but sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and it works. That's the type of chance that Pike was given.

I am only looking at this from an NFL combine type situation. With a healthy Kay...I think he grades out very well and would get drafted.

Pike had good accuracy and a pretty quick recognition of when to make a pass. He had a very weak arm (in terms of NFL arms) and a fragile body type.
