I take it Mick really wants him. If we could get him and Shreiner that would be great IMO.

Elijah Stewart jumps to #64 in rivals latest top 150 rankings.

Sounds like his final 6 according to ScoutHoops...Boston College, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, Pitt, and USC. It also said he set a visit but I don't have the subscription to see that.

Based on his 247 profile it looks like he's visiting this weekend.

Would this kid be good enough to start right away?

Probably not from day one, but it looks like he's got the potential to start come January or so. I didn't know we were this close with this kid. I'm pumped.

I have no idea if he'd start, but he's a consensus 4-star, top 100 player that can really shoot the ball. He's exactly what we are looking for.

Here's a take from ESPN's Paul Biancardi

Quote:

When our final rankings came out the other day Elijah Stewart came in at No. 94.

Stewart can play, as he has a rangy frame and is a terrific jump-shooter. He’s an explosive athlete who can compete and perform in any conference. He loves to attack the rim in combination with his jumper, which makes him hard to guard. An area of improvement would be his ball handling, as he attacks with speed more than control.

UNC has inquired, as have USC, UCLA and many other programs.

If Tar Heels go after him hard, they will get a visit. His quick-trigger jumper is just what they need.

Scout lists his strengths as 3-point shooting, athleticism, and mid-range game, while he needs to improve his strength.

Quote:

A late bloomer, Stewart emerged during his senior season as a scoring machine. The 6-foot-6 wiry wing is a very good long-range shooter and is quite comfortable going off the dribble for mid-range pull-ups. Stewart is a good, not great ball handler. Athletically, he's gifted. He jumps well, has good speed and moves well laterally. Stewart has potential as a wing defender as well.

Sounds like he could play the 2 or 3 for us. Could benefit him his soph year when Sanders is gone.

He has good size for a shooting guard (obviously needs strength) and a very high release up around his head. I don't see him having a difficulty getting his shot up at the college level. He's got loads of potential, I see him as a very good college player as an upperclassmen wherever he goes to college.
