'14 SG Elijah Stewart

He was a 4 star SG who committed to Loyola Martmount out of high school and recently got his release. We have not offered yet.

BearcatNation54 04-11-2014 01:46 PM

So why make a thread on him?

That was my thought at first, but I guess he has some interest in UC:

Didn't you create a thread on someone you wished we were recruiting?

jacobkdoyle 04-13-2014 10:45 PM

Sounds like UNC is going after him. They will visit him this week. No timetable for a decision though since he just decommitted from Loyola last week. I hope we can land one of these guys for 2014...but suddenly not looking so good.

Just found out UNC will no longer be pursuing Elijah Stewart. On to 2015 we go!

bearcats5 04-26-2014 04:55 PM

Evan Daniels @EvanDaniels: 2014 SG Elijah Stewart is in Sacramento watching old AAU team. Andy Enfield & Mick Cronin just watched him sit on the bench for a full game.

I take it Mick really wants him. If we could get him and Shreiner that would be great IMO.

Elijah Stewart jumps to #64 in rivals latest top 150 rankings.

jacobkdoyle 04-30-2014 10:42 AM

Sounds like his final 6 according to ScoutHoops...Boston College, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, Pitt, and USC. It also said he set a visit but I don't have the subscription to see that.

Bearcat04 04-30-2014 11:00 AM

Based on his 247 profile it looks like he's visiting this weekend.

Would this kid be good enough to start right away?

Probably not from day one, but it looks like he's got the potential to start come January or so. I didn't know we were this close with this kid. I'm pumped.

I have no idea if he'd start, but he's a consensus 4-star, top 100 player that can really shoot the ball. He's exactly what we are looking for.

Here's a take from ESPN's Paul Biancardi

Quote:

When our final rankings came out the other day Elijah Stewart came in at No. 94.

Stewart can play, as he has a rangy frame and is a terrific jump-shooter. He’s an explosive athlete who can compete and perform in any conference. He loves to attack the rim in combination with his jumper, which makes him hard to guard. An area of improvement would be his ball handling, as he attacks with speed more than control.

UNC has inquired, as have USC, UCLA and many other programs.

If Tar Heels go after him hard, they will get a visit. His quick-trigger jumper is just what they need.
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbr...pursue-stewart

Scout lists his strengths as 3-point shooting, athleticism, and mid-range game, while he needs to improve his strength.

Quote:

A late bloomer, Stewart emerged during his senior season as a scoring machine. The 6-foot-6 wiry wing is a very good long-range shooter and is quite comfortable going off the dribble for mid-range pull-ups. Stewart is a good, not great ball handler. Athletically, he's gifted. He jumps well, has good speed and moves well laterally. Stewart has potential as a wing defender as well.

Sounds like he could play the 2 or 3 for us. Could benefit him his soph year when Sanders is gone.

Bearcat_NTS 04-30-2014 11:41 AM

He has good size for a shooting guard (obviously needs strength) and a very high release up around his head. I don't see him having a difficulty getting his shot up at the college level. He's got loads of potential, I see him as a very good college player as an upperclassmen wherever he goes to college.

Well if Haywood and Stewart are visiting this weekend you might as well invite Shreiner too and hope you get two out of the three to commit.

bearcat18 04-30-2014 12:20 PM

Huge news if the visit is really happening. If I'm Mick, I have a lot of film of SK to show Stewart. To me, it sounds like they have some similarities. Great scorers, limited ball handling, good size, and both were relatively under recruited.

USC will be a big threat not only because of location but they have two assistants on their staff who played high school ball where Stewart played.

Landing him could be huge as far as getting another highly rated recruit goes. Going by their highest rankings(because why would you do it any other way ha) here is what they were coming out of high school.

4/5 star in lawrence
4 star in Clark
4 star in moore
4 star in Shaq
4 star in surprise surprise Sanders

and then 4 star in Stewart
and then either schreiner or haywood and you are looking at what would be 2 years in a row of great classes

That would be 3 **** and as far as JUCO goes, a proven big man

Now I know not to care about stars and rankings, ha but when you are getting guys ranked a little higher its just that much more exciting. Now they just need to put it all together as a team. but I think the last class with that many 4 stars would be this.

Stewart and Haywood visiting this weekend. In a perfect world we land both this weekend!!!!

Ok, don't call him a 5 just a 4. I still guarantee you he plays minutes when he's going to be tallest player on court from our team. He might be skinny but he's going to be our best rebounder and rim protector on team

We have Deberry, Moore and Strickland this year and one of them will always be on the floor at the 5 spot so at no point and time will Lawrence be the tallest player.

Some highlights of Elijah Stewart. I don't think you can rule him out to compete for a starting position depending on his development in preseason. Looks like he has a lot of offensive skill obviously not sure how his D stacks up to what we have. Looks like a solid player though!

Stewart is down to 3

UC
Oklahoma State
USC

BearcatNation54 04-30-2014 07:19 PM

When's the last time we've landed two top 100 players? This would be huge.

Bearcat_NTS 04-30-2014 08:32 PM

Several time. In the 2007 class they landed 5 top 150 recruits per rivals.

Bulldog01 04-30-2014 09:07 PM

If we land Stewart we will have best backcourt since Satterfield, Logan and Stokes.

I was hoping he wasn't going to visit all the schools. Hopefully he's impressed this weekend!

No way he ends up taking 5 visits.

Weez1414 05-01-2014 12:12 AM

That year was skewed bad, but thats the way rankings go. We all know how Biggie turned out and Wilks was definitely overrated. While Jason Henry never bounced a ball on our floor if any. Micks definitely landing some ranked talent but for the most part they arent living up to their ranking. Cant wait till they do though. Clark and Quadri are going to be alright and Caupain will be a diamond in the rough. They land a shooter and Lawrence comes around CATS will be tough.

Why Lawrence it seems like because you told he was good out of high school that he is good?? Have you seen him play? I hope he's not in the starting 5.. yeah he's a freshman but I didn't see anything that's makes me think he's close.
