Miami
Wednesday, December 1st, 2021
7:00 PM Millett Hall ESPN+ The Bearcats and Redhawks face off on the hardwood for the first time in 10 years with Miami attempting to break a 31-year victory drought and 13-game losing streak in the rivalry. Miami (KP #121) is looking to start 6-1 for the first time since the 97/98 season and will rely on an experienced core that aims to deliver the program its first 20-win season in over 20 years. Their current starting 5 came into this year with a combined 15 seasons of experience in the program. Their AdjO is currently ranked KP #68 and they already boast an impressive OOC win at Georgia Tech (KP #67). They don't boast much size but they do have some athletes who will score on us with ease if we don't stay in front of them on defense. If we are serious about having any shot at an NCAA bid in March, this is a game we must win. |

We're 4.5 pt favorites. Torvik has us winning by 1.
Miami has only played four D1 games, but so far they are best in the country at taking care of the ball. They turned it over just 5 times in their last game, and only had 8 at Georgia Tech. Miami is also very good at the free throw line, shooting 83% - good for 7th nationally. On the flip side they are bad at defending the three point line, coming in at #335. They gave up 15 threes in their loss to Western Illinois at a 54% clip (but at Georgia Tech they only gave up 4 of 17). Miami plays a very small lineup, with four players who are 6'2 or shorter averaging 24+ minutes. The bulk of frontcourt duties go to players who are 6'7 or shorter. Despite a lack of size, they block shots and grab defensive rebounds surprisingly well. They shoot a lot of threes and give up a lot of threes. This should be a game where we use our size. Georgia Tech's big man was 4-5 at the rim and had 13 rebounds. Whoever is playing the five should be able to control the paint. Only one of Miami's big men will step outside to shoot the three (Delonte Brown who is hitting 56% on the year). I'd expect to have Davenport on Brown when he's in the game. |
Line is down to 3.5.

Our offense is to jack up threes…
Edit. We are terrible |
They are shooting over 50% and beating us on the boards. Something needs to change. What's the point of playing two 7 footers if neither of them can rebound or score on the interior?
Edit: At this point just put in whoever is actually going to grab a rebound. |
Terry Nelson just said it on the radio (in reference to Ado). "If you can't block shots and you can't rebound, then you can't be in the game, put another guard in."
Edit: It seems like Ado heard him, has had 4 offensive rebounds and 4 point since I typed that. |
This team stinks.
We don't defend that great and we are horrible on offense. |
Out of a time out… our play was run the clock down then have ddj jack up a 3.
Losing some of the Miller hype if this is how his team will play. |
Poor coaching, plain and simple.
|
Meh. Can’t make shots again but other than that I don’t think it’s too bad
|
Can't make shots because they run zero offense, don't move the ball, and take bad shots. They have been a terrible shooting team for a couple years now and they shoot 20 3's in one half? Bad coaching.

lol, what's the adjustment?
|
Good God they are so poorly coached. Maybe Wes can try doing something?
|
Fire Wes. This team is completely horrible.
|
We didn’t even play this bad under Brannen…. Except against Houston lol
|
Jacking up threes is not a great strategy against anybody, but it's inexcusable against a team as small as Miami. And we should never have one of our 7-footers guarding a shooter on the perimeter. These are basic concepts I identified by scouting Miami for a few minutes on Torvik. I have no idea what this coaching staff is thinking.
|
We are soft.
|
I doubt the coaching staff is telling them to jack up bad threes. But yes, they have to get guys to actually run offense. We've been better about it the last few minutes.

You take a bad three. You sit.

Hensley must be terrible if he can’t crack this rotation
|
Has MAW played basketball before? He sure doesn't look like a D1 player.

Take MAW out! He is awful.
|
The line up with Saunders ddj Hensley vik and ado didn’t look to bad. Also vik got some terrible calls against him
|
What do you know, MAW giving up a 3

Can't believe they call a TO to get the ball into Ado...thank God for JD.
|
Wes better figure this out. This is not good enough.
|
2-12 ft?? Who are we?
|
Style points!
|
Anyone shocked MAW missed the 1-1? There was no chance he was making that. I wouldn't even have had him in the game he was so bad. Then JD looks to the refs at the end of the game thinking it was over when there was still time left. Fortunately Miami sucks. No idea what Wes is doing.
|
Hey, we got a win! Saunders, DDJ, Newman, Davenport and Ado is a solid lineup (when Ado is playing well). The other guys though... MAW has been terrible lately, Lakhin can't stay on the floor, Koval wants to be a guard, Ody is very inconsistent (and sat out the 2nd half with an injury), Mason struggles to make a shot.
