NKU
Games is Tuesday night
NKU is 8-1 They can shoot, and will be coming into our arena looking to make the upset. I’m having flashbacks from two years ago against Marshall where Marshall couldn’t miss. I really hope they aren’t making every 3 they take. Hopefully we avoid the trap game and get out with a W. We are the better team and have more talent. This is a perfect game for us fans to look forward to, to help crosstown shootout week move a little faster |
In their only game against decent competition this year (@UCF) they competed well for one half before UCF made an early 2nd half run and NKU spent the last 15 minutes of the game down 15+ points. UCF missed 19 free throws in that game but held NKU to only 8 second half FGs which marked only the second time this season NKU scored less than 77 points in a game.
They are one of the best 2-point shooting teams we'll face this season (61.3%) while also one of the worst free-throw shooting teams (61.8%). It'll be interesting to see what type of line-ups we put on the floor as their two primary front court players McDonald and Walton are 45% 3-point shooters who take about 5 3s a game each so I'm not sure we can count on Brooks/Nsoseme to guard them on the perimeter. |

Pressure them and disrupt any offensive flow. Thats what UCF did. Brooks could have a big game as they do not guard the paint all that well. They can shoot it though.

Need to put this one in the win column. Hope the guys aren't looking ahead to Saturday. Have to keep building our resume and learn from each game. The guys are growing their games. We need to get some consistency.
|
I think an upset would have been more realistic if no one made this a big deal. Now there's no looking past NKU as the players coaches and fans know this is no joke. That's the worst thing that could have happened to NKU.
Marshall came in two years ago under the radar and lit it up. |
our perimeter defense better show up tonight. its been bad this year and the results only look ok because OSU is the only good shooting team we've played. 6 have been 200th or worse in 3%.
nku is ok at defending offensive rebounds but we should still get them. nku actually has the 2nd best defense we've faced this year. they aren't great at anything on defense but the only thing they are awful at is fouling (and against us thats probably not terrible). we should be able to out physical them, but it will be important to come out strong and not let them get into a rhythm. |
This is not a trap game! There should be no way in hell we are looking past this one given the proximity of opponent and extra motivation we know they are going to bring to the game. Not to mention they are a quality opponent.
If we show up with the right intensity we should win comfortably unless there is some perfect storm type of scenario (cold shooting vs hot shooting). Knowing that we brought some pretty good intensity to the NC Central game I can't imagine we will come out flat to this one. We need to bury them! |
Does anyone have a link to stream this game?

|
well i was right about the foul part. nku can't play defense without committing a foul.

cane looked like me trying to make a layup

KW has to work on this shot selection. thats a couple of terrible ones.

|

Plus we are getting a few nice bounces off the rim for rebounds although we are battling hard down there |
Tre Scott 10/10 at the strip. I see you big fella
|
Everyone perfect from the line but Jarron
|
right in the nards
|
we should be thankful they've fouled us so much
|
Jim day is so annoying. I was flabbergasted that he got the reds play by play job and now hes calling cats games?!
|
About 5 straight minutes of horrendous passing just about turned the game around. Geesh! I thought we were going to see a full line change.
|
Trevor Moore getting in before Logan Johnson is a big headscratcher
|
Monster game from Scott tonight! And I love listening to him in post game...

If we get even half that Scott moving forward I think our team will surprise some people this year.

I'm still not sure we're actually good, and while NKU isn't top tier competition, this was another nice win.
I don't fully understand how this group is pulling it off, but Cronin deserves some credit for the direction they're trending. Next two games are very tough, and I'd happily take a split. Even 0-2 isn't the end of the world although it would cut down on our margin of error to make the tournament. Can't believe it, but I really thought we may miss the tournament this year. That seems pretty unlikely with how they're playing right now, and even moreso with the areas for improvement that are attainable. Keith Williams producing like he has been has been a borderline revelation. Shocked to see him perform like this, and hopefully he continues to improve. |
On top of Scott's career night, Nsoseme and Brooks both looked a class above NKU's bigs as well. Their "superstar" Macdonald was nothing less of shook all night and would be right there with Sam Martin on our depth chart. Also a very efficient night from Jenifer as well.

The 3 bigs really did steal the show tonight. 11-17 shooting. 20 boards. 4 blocks. 16-17 from the line (are you kidding me). 38 points. More assists than turnovers and only 3 fouls. |
Obviously Jenifer had another very efficient game too. Don’t want to leave him out
|
was looking over the box score and we gave up 16 offensive boards to nku. thats completely unacceptable. thats an OR% of 40. nku averages 25%.
3 straight games giving up 36% or higher. if we put up that kind of effort on the glass vs xavier its gonna be a long afternoon. Brooks has 16 rebounds in his last 98 minutes played (5 games). Nsoseme has 16 in his last 40 minutes played. |
Keep the Wins coming
