'12 OH PG Terry Rozier (Committed to Louisville)

According to Scout we have offered. One of the faster rising guards in the country.

Strengths:
Terry is a very good shooter with range out to 22 feet. He's at his best making plays and scoring off the dribble. He has some explosivenees and is a good athlete with excellent length at his position. He's also a solid off the ball defencer.

Weaknesses:
He would do well to improve his point guard skills in order to expand his game. Especially his decision making and being an overall team leader. He's good at creating for himself but he needs to be better at getting his teammates involved, especially off the dribble.

Bottom Line:
Overall a terrific prospect and one of the top rising guards in his class. He's really come out of nowhere to be a borderline Top 100 player. He'll be a high priority in the state of Ohio heading into the spring and summer (2011).

Notes
Travel Team: All Ohio Red...Michigan State, Miami and Louisville are getting involved (July 2011)...

Shaker Heights' Terry Rozier makes strong impression at LeBron James' Skills Academy

Published: Friday, July 08, 2011, 2:50 AM Updated: Friday, July 08, 2011, 10:25 AM

By Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer

AKRON, Ohio — Shaker Heights guard Terry Rozier may not have been a hot name coming into the 2011 LeBron James Skills Academy at Rhodes Arena. But he made his presence felt Thursday in front of just about every major college basketball coach in the country. The 6-1, 168-pound guard displayed speed, quickness and a solid shooting touch as he worked on his transition from a combo guard to a true point guard.

"I've always been a combo," Rozier said of his ability to play both guard positions. "Now I'm adjusting to being a pure point."

According to various recruiting sites, Rozier is one of the fastest-rising guards in the country in a year in which point guards are considered at a premium. "Kent State was the first school to offer me, you always keep the first one [on the list]," Rozier said. Now it's clear that list has expanded. Apparently he fits the Big East style of play as he lists Louisville, West Virginia and Cincinnati among his favorites along with the Big Ten's Illinois.

Rozier also said, "If I was to stay home, Cleveland State."

That would be a nice score for CSU, which recently had point guard Norris Cole picked in the first round of the NBA Draft, and former Shaker Heights point guard Anthony Wells leave the program . But the Vikings will not be short on point guards in the as 5-9 Charles Lee from Milwaukee, considered an Earl Boykins clone, joins the team this season along with 6-4 point guard Sebastian Douglas, a prized 2010 recruit from Houston, who was injured and sat out as a redshirt last season.

Terry Rozier emerging as top point guard prospect

PUBLISHED Monday, Jul 11, 2011 at 2:34 pm EDT

Mike DeCourcy
Sporting News

Teams looking for a point guard in the 2012 recruiting class will need to look hard, but those looking hard might be pleased to discover the gifts of Terry Rozier.

Preparing for his senior year at Shaker Heights (Ohio), Rozier, a 6-1, 168-pound playmaker, consistently turned heads with his obvious command of the game during the LeBron James Skills Academy.

Rozier said he is considering such schools as Illinois, West Virginia, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Cleveland State and several programs in the Mid-American Conference.

He has been to the campus at Cleveland State, which is close to home, and is trying to arrange trips to see Cincinnati, Illinois and West Virginia.

Most analysts do not rank Rozier as a top-100 player. He does not have the Iverson-esque quickness that typically leads a smallish player such as Rozier to those kinds of accolades. But his gift for running a team will help at the Division I level—and the dearth of quality prospects at his position may enhance his value.

The closest thing to a point guard in Scout.com’s top 25 is D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who is listed at No. 25 and can play either backcourt spot.

There are 19 points in the Scout top 100, but eight have already chosen schools. So that will make capable points who remain available even more valuable. You know, if diamonds were as common as gravel, no one would spend two months’ salary on an engagement ring.

“I’m good in my state. I get respect in my state,” Rozier told Sporting News. “But country-wise, no one was knowing me.

“My AAU team wasn’t that well-known, so I told myself in order to get known, get recognized, play against the best, I had to get on a good team. I joined All-Ohio Red, and I just started playing hard, playing with an edge. I was underrated, so I just came out playing tough.”

Rozier has the opportunity to continue building his reputation this week at the Nike EYBL at the Peach Jam tournament, where he’ll compete with 2009 champion All-Ohio Red.

With All-Ohio Red, Rozier plays with Michigan State-bound Kenny Kaminski of Medina and No. 43 Elijah Macon of Columbus.

“I never really thought I’m better than somebody,” Rozier said. “I’d never say, ‘I’m better than this guy,’ but I want to go up against him. That’s how it’s going to be in college.”

UC is in solid with him. My guess is they have a shot if they pursue hard enough.

It sounds like he's very close to committing to UL from internet chatter and his own twitter account.

Liked the kid and his game but with Cash, Ge and Davis here it is the least of the needs I see. Low post and wing are what needs to be addressed. 2013 should be the target year for another point.
