Carmel (Oak Hill Academy)
Ht: 6'11"
Wt:250 lbs

Rivals 4 star, rated 10th at his position, and 56th nationally. Anybody that's seen him up close can vouch for his size. I'd love to sign this kid!

Cincinnati hosted a huge recruit on Saturday for their game against Georgetown. 6-10 junior A.J. Hammons of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia took a visit to Ohio for the Bearcats contest.

Strengths:
Hammons has great size and impacts the game with he post presence when motivated. He is a big bodied center that runs the floor well and has great hands. He is a huge post target that can score with power drop steps, Jump hooks and drop off passes created by dribble penetration that he finishes above the rim with a clear path or direct angle. Hammons has great touch and feel around the basket. He has the ability to score through contact when he goes to the rim aggressively. He is a good area rebounder on both ends because of not only his length but big body. He is difficult for defenders to get around in the post which is a great advantage for a true back to the basket scorer. He plays with his hands up on defense and does a good job of making the offense shot over his outstretched arms which prevents him from picking up cheap fouls.

Weaknesses:
Hammons must work to maintain his conditioning in order to play for extended periods of time. He must also work to stay aggressive throughout game because when he is attacking he is very difficult to handle. Hammons must also work on continuing to hone and add to his back to the basket moves and become a better out of area rebounder in which he is very capable even through he is a big center. Hammons could be a better head hunt screener in order to not only help teammates get open but himself.

Bottom Line:
Hammons is a true center that is mobile and has great hands. He has great size and can score, rebound and defend and change the game in a positive way when he is active and aggressive. He must pay special attention to his strength and conditioning but his upside is tremendous and with steady development could develop into a special post player. He has looked to continue to lose unwanted weight and has increased his explosiveness which has made him a better shot blocker due to the fact that he has the size, length and timing already in his possession.

Mick is quoted in the Enquirer saying Hammons parents called and UC is now # 1 on his list.

Quote from the Enquirer:

"We had a couple of big-time recruits at the Georgetown game and we are now their No. 1 school," Cronin said. "And they called us, their parents, on Monday morning, to tell us that."

Assuming it was Hammons. He is a big good looking prospect. Big big kid.

Hammons was at the Georgetown game so I assume he was one of the two. Anyone know who the other recruit at the Georgetown game might have been?

I'm not certain but I think one or two of the big time 2013 local prospects were there: IE Devin Williams.

He's still flying way under the radar. Going to be interesting to see how his game progresses. If his offensive skills catch up to his will on the glass he could be something special.

I believe A.J. Hammons is a UC lean right now, but Ohio State is all over him from what I'm hearing. The next few months are going to be extremely interesting.
