They say 1 WAR is worth $8M. Based on that, Votto was worth $60M last year.
The contracts that kill them are Homer Bailey (who has been alright so far this year) and Devin Mesoraco. They are making over $34M combined this year. $9M more than Votto.
Also doesn't help that most of these young pitchers are struggling to break through.
Joey Votto and his contract are the very last thing I blame for the Reds being terrible. Imagine where they'd be without him. They might fall out of last place.
