Michigan admits 4 major violations

The voluntary probation should be a major blow

http://www.freep.com/article/2010052...-so-are-others

Rich Rod shifts a lot of the blame to others; but that should be expected, he doesn't read contracts he signed, why should he bother reading NCAA regs.

"• No. 1a: His response to the allegation that U-M’s quality control staff worked with players in the summer was that he didn’t know the rule: “Rodriguez was not aware that NCAA legislation prohibits sport-specific noncoaching staff members from being involved with voluntary summer workouts. Rodriguez did not knowingly or deliberately ignore the bylaw, he simply overlooked it and believed it was permissible for the quality control staff to be involved in summer workouts because they were assigned to work with the strength staff.”

The excuse was that they shouldn't be punished because it was all for extra stretching...not mentioning that stretching earlier would mean longer periods of real practice. I'd say hit with the death penalty for insulting our intelligence.

RIch Rod is a couple of early season losses away from officially being one of the biggest flops in the history of the NCAA.

If Kentucky (basketball) doesn't get the death penalty for circumventing every rule in the book and nearly getting the death penalty in the 70s, it is hard to give it to Michigan especially when this is the first time Michigan has ever been caught doing anything wrong. It would seriously help UC, OSU, MSU, and ND in terms of recruiting if there are some serious sanctions levied by the NCAA. While Michigan has been crappy on the field these last few years, the brand still holds a lot of weight in recruiting. Don't hold your breath that anything more will come of it though.

The real issue here is how much longer Rich Rod will be employed by UM. There is a clause in his contract that states he can be fired and not paid a penny if the program is sanctioned by the NCAA while he is the head coach. There are definitely some in the UM circle that want the NCAA to levy some kind of additional punishment so they can wash their hands of Rich Rod. His hiring was very polarizing for those who call the Big House home.

Sorry, I was being facetious. They should lose a couple of scholarships for the next two years. That, no postseason, or no tv are about the only things with real teeth in it.
