Cronin extened through 2018
UC announced that Cronin's contract has been extended through 2018...
per Tommy G twitter: The amended contract provides incentives for academics and clause/incentives for non-conference home scheduling. |

Seems like a no brainer, you don't want him on a contract that doesn't extend beyond 4 years. Hopefully he'll earn it.

It's important because it extends him for 5 years so the 2014 class knows he will be here.

It appears he has earned it. If he got it, then in the eyes of his bosses, he has earned it. It's certainly not the vote of confidence that Jamie Dixon got.....i.e. 1st round NCAA loss lead to a 10 year contract extension. I don't know why we keep screwing around with these short extensions. Obviously, 5 years is a bare minimum that a coach should have, but if they think he has done amazing, then why not 10? 10 would look far better to future recruits than 5.

Agreed, I really doubt it factors in past five years. And why 5 years instead of 10? Because they're not sure they want to be locked into him that long. 5 years is a good deal for both sides IMO.

Yes I pointed out that he hadn't been extended, and everyone knows that hurts recruiting. In my opinion, a coach should never get inside of 5 years left on their contract. Cronin's was allowed to get down to almost 4 before they bumped him back to 5. If the administration loves him as everyone claims, and he will be here for life, then make it 10. Why screw around with these tiny extensions and ever allowing him to get inside of 5 years left. He had to recruit for a half year with less than 5 years on his contract. If he's our man, then lock him up long term!
