Notre Dame OC to UC?

Notre dame current offensive cordinater mike denbrock is set to join fickels staff at uc in same position as OC. Here's a little background on the guy he is in his early 60s born in Michigan played at grand valley state he was Eifort's tight end coach at ND then became WR coach before becoming OC in 2014. He was the WR coach for 2012 undefeated season. I like the hire.

*cant hurt on the Zaire recruitment either

This is from FootballScoop:

Mike Denbrock: Last night Pete Thamel of SI reported that Notre Dame associate head coach / wide receivers coach Mike Denbrock was expected to be the new offensive coordinator at Cincinnati for Luke Fickell. It is our understanding that Denbrock has not decided to accept another position at this time. Will update as more is clear.

ESPN is now reporting he informed ND he's leaving. Apparently known as a great recruiter.

This is a great hire if/when it becomes final. An instant upgrade in every way compared to Taylor.

Defensive Coordinator

This is just a gut feeling, but I think Kerri Coombs will be the DC at UC next year. If he wants to be a head coach in college, he needs to add this to his resume'. Fickell can keep an eye on him, obviously is a good recruiter. Just a hunch. If this does not happen, it would seem to me that Fickell has not been impressed with him. And if Coombs does not get DC at OSU, that also says something.

He already got promoted to "Co-Defensive Coordinator" at OSU. Urban also hired Billy Davis, his best man at his wedding, to replace Fickell. Coombs is a good recruiter but I think the only position he would leave OSU for would be a head coaching position. He is not coming to Cincinnati. Also if you are Luke Fickell do you really want him on your staff? Would have to deal with the "Time to promote Coombs" crowd every time there is a bump in the road. Needs to be Fickell's program and with the hiring of Denbrock it seems like we can expect an experienced DC who is also a great recruiter. Interested to see who that is going to be but I can not see it being Coombs.

I'm very excited as well. I'm ready to give this coaching staff a shot.

My guess is Coombs will wait to leave Ohio St when he turns 60. I believe, and I could be wrong, because Ohio State is a state university it pays into his state retirement he earned as a teacher. Rules are you receive 80% of the average of your last 5 years when you retire at 60. So he would receive his last 5 years at an extremely high pay. Could be wrong, but I wouldn't blame him if that is true, sticking it out until pay day.
