Junior signal-caller Patrick Coyne (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) committed to sign as part of Cincinnati's Class of 2011 Monday, ESPN affiliate Web site BearcatLair.com reports.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect selected Cincinnati over scholarship offers from West Virginia, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Boston College.

Other programs including Bowling Green, Ohio and Toledo also extended offers.

Coyne, an ESPNU 150 Watch List talent, is the first Class of 2011 pledge for Cincinnati.

Article on the Commit from Today's Enquirer:

Coyne commits to UC
Posted by mdyer March 30th, 2010, 8:20 am

Badin junior QB Patrick Coyne orally committed to UC on Monday night, becoming the first Cincinnati-area player to commit to the Bearcats from the 2011 class.

Coyne, who is 6 feet 2 and 225 pounds, also had offers that included West Virginia, Wisconsin, Illinois, Akron, Bowling Green, Boston College, Minnesota, Buffalo, Toledo and Ohio University.

“I think it is great to have Pat commit to Cincinnati,” Badin coach Bill Tenore said. “The University of Cincinnati has a great football program and to be able to play in front of a hometown crowd and family and friends will be great for Pat.”

Coyne threw for 1,642 yards and nine touchdowns for the Rams last season. He rushed for 491 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was first-team all-GCL Central.

“I expect Pat to have another great year,” Tenore said. “We have the potential here at Badin to have a real nice 2010 football season.”

looks like I am a few hours late, Coyne is a great pickup. Local kid with some great D1 offers, he should be a good one.

I'm pleased. UC probably won't take any more, so he was smart in verballing sooner than later. The big need is the defensive front. I hope to see more offers coming out in the next two weeks with DL in the forefront.

Sounds like our coaching staff is full of enthusiasm and attitude.

Gotta love it.

I look forward to very good class.

I think Coyne is a great start to 2011.

BuckeyePlanet had some nice things to say about Patrick. He was a solid first verbal.

Killed the Elite11 in Columbus.. He's 6'1.5" now according to his father and was the consensus top QB at the event.
