Saunders continues to struggle guarding despite his quickness. The list could go on. I'm not saying I don't want better athletes. But I think inexperience in Miller's system and Miller not having the time to implement everything is just as big of a factor (if not a bigger one). Hopefully it's inexperience and not poor coaching, otherwise we have a whole different problem. Guys like Ody, Lakhin, Newman, Hensley and even MAW have the size and athletic ability to play with Houston. And a less athletic guy can do a lot if they are smart and tough (Davenport for example could manage it in theory). What they lack is experience and cohesion and that only comes with time. This was a cobbled together roster of a first year coach against the well oiled machine of a great coach who has been at the same school for a long time. Better athletes would not have won us the game last night, we also need more experienced players, players who fit the system and Miller needs more time to implement his system. |
