I was never even a Mick hater. I would have been okay had he stuck around. But I'm also not going to pretend that he was kicking ass and taking names. I have one account on two boards, same name on each board. I came here from the Csnbbs board because of their constant meltdowns and lack of actual conversation (especially) during game threads. Last year I was one of the few people on that board telling guys we'd be fine and that the Ohio State game did not mean the season was a disaster and we 'd be lucky to make the NIT.

They are on an emotional high right now because they finally got rid of Mick and are going to be happy with anything. Give it a few years and they will be back to melting down. I've been being ripped because my expectations are that we will not see a big (if any) jump in recruiting with Brannen (or any new coach). Their expectations are us getting 4-stars and 5-stars, my expectations are we stay right about where we were under Mick. So far I've been right.

Brannen is comparable to Cronin when he was hired (both successful for 4-5 years at a smaller D1 school), Brannen's assistants are comparable to what Mick had and so far our recruiting is worse but it's hard to judge this early.

Maybe on this board. But the other board has been saying for years that Mick is a terrible recruiter, bad at developing players and sucks at coaching offense. So if all those things are true, why should we expect a minor improvement.

Heck, the other board hates me because I expect minor improvement at best. They think we are a historically top program, a high major (not UK or Duke, but in the group behind them) and should be competing for top recruits.

Maybe I’m missing something, did anyone say we would be getting 5 stars or is this something you and Justin made up? I haven’t seen anyone say 5 stars. Like I said before, I have seen people say a 4 star or 2 every year or couple years. You guys are twisting what people are saying.
Also I don’t expect that big a difference from the last couple years. The last couple years have been great aside from the tournament. I don’t think mick is the only coach in America that can be successful here though. Like some seem to think

I think most people realize mick is a good coach but also would like something new. I think the pressure of the tournament started to get to mick to some extent and he wanted a fresh start. I also think the administration was getting tired of his attitude. It happens at any job. I am curious to see what another coach can do here. I’m sure there will be bumps in road. It sucks that next year won’t be as good as we thought but let’s not jump ship already.

Not so much here, but definitely on the other forum. People complained we didn't offer enough 5-stars and we should be getting 4 and 5 stars.

I agree with your expectations. Recruiting a four star now and then and quite a few high-three stars. Plus some lower rated projects who can be developed into stars (especially at center as there are fewer ready now bigs). Pretty much what we've been doing under Mick, maybe a small improvement.

Brannen can be better here. I just don't think it will be on the recruiting end. It will be in player development and coaching. Specifically continuing to coach great D, but having a more efficient offense. Also being more flexible and finding ways to mold his scheme to the players. Even if he can maintain close to the level Mick had over the last 3 years, we will get lucky in the NCAA tournament eventually and that will make everyone happy.

But the next 1-2 years are going to be kind of ugly. Especially if JC doesn't return. Just the nature of coaching changes. Brannen's going to have to do a great coaching job, but it seems like he can (he was my clear favorite of the coaching candidates).
