What is FedEx's benefit or YUM Brands' benefit? It is all about ways to get your brands in front of the public. That is their benefit. Whether they believe it is a worthy investment is up to them.

I get that but fed ex has n nba team and yum is the only game in town. Here kroger or pg can spend on pro teams and reach a wider audience.

Outside of buying tickets to the Bengals games to help avoid a sell out, I don't believe P&G or Kroger do much with the Bengals. If they do, they shouldn't be because I am a Bengals fan that lives outside of Cincinnati and their companies never cross my mind when I think of the Bengals. Paul Brown Stadium is not being renamed. Neither is Great American Ball Park (which is already corporately sponsored). So, actually, if you want naming rights in the city of Cincinnati and you are a Fortune 500 company, your option is a new basketball arena for UC. Hey, if 5/3rd wants to pony up money, I am for that too. Point is, just because there are pro teams in town, it doesn't mean that there aren't companies with money who could spend it on UC. 30+ games a year on National TV (ESPN or CBS SportsNetwork) is pretty darn good exposure.

Oh, and last time I checked, Yum doesn't get any extra exposure because it is the "only game in town." They play just as many games as UC and have the same number of opportunities for people to see the name "Yum" on television.

Bearcat_NTS will become famous soon enough
UC needs a state of the art arena to compete at the highest level. Unfortunately, they already tapped the donors for the football stadium and do not have a lot of money from the TV contract.

I'm not sure what the argument is here. A big corporate has already ponied up. That's why Shoemaker is called 5/3 arena. I'm sure if UC built a new arena 5/3 would consider buying the naming rights to that as well assuming they wouldn't inherit the naming rights based on the current contract.

Love the part of the article where he lists all the coaches who have private jets and then he says EVEN Chris Mack has one, thought it was funny the way he
put it.

Agreed or at least something more modern and fan friendly.

If we aren't going to get enough donations to renovate the arena...it would be nice for the time being to just put a little more into the budget to help with marketing, promotions, getting better games at home, private jet allowance for Cronin, etc. Those are small dollars compared to a new arena.

Then if Cronin can get us in the top 10 or final 4 it will be an easier sell for the big bucks needed to renovate.

WH you are hitting the nail on the head tonight. If we can just give him enough until nippert is done.

I'm not really sure it's a matter of getting donations or not getting donations when it comes to building a football stadium vs a bball arena. The new Nippert isn't being paid for solely on the heels of donations, not even close. Renovating Nippert gives the university a chance to add an entirely new revenue stream with the addition of luxury suites and club seats. With the added revenue stream Nippert will pay for itself long before the financing on the stadium is due.

The problem with a new bball arena is that UC doesn't have much room to create a revenue stream with a new arena. We already have luxury suites at 5/3rd, granted they are horrible, but they are there. Building a new basketball arena is a cost that is harder to swallow for the athletic program because it's never going to give you the opportunity to pay for itself. You're never going to get enough private donations to completely pay for the cost of building a brand new arena.

Obviously we need a new arena and hopefully we'll get one within the next 10 years. In the mean time, I'd love to see the athletic program do some things in the short term to increase the experience at 5/3rd. Put in better lighting, LED banner lights and scoreboards, and improve the audio system. I would imagine that type of upgrade could be done for less than 5 million dollars and it would go a long way towards making the experience better for the fans.

I agree about the plane, Mick needs that and hopefully the university will respond.

This is the reason why UC needs to get into another conference. Just think what our athletic program could do with the $20-25 million yearly income we'd receive just for being a part of the Big12 or ACC.
