What happened to the Yancy Gates we saw on Maui?

Remember*those monster games that Yancy Gates had out in Hawaii? He scored 16 points with 10 rebounds against Vanderbilt, followed by 17 and 13 vs. Maryland, after which Maryland*coach Gary Williams said not many teams in the country had a player like Gates.As it turns out, neither did UC.*Since then, we have seen only glimpses [...]

I don't think that's a shocker. He has all the physical tools necessary to be a professional athlete, just lacking in the mental arena.
