The NCAA rules are new for everybody. Koval isn't the only player in this situation who was probably expecting to play. And they all might still get waivers. Despite the new strict rule wording, they might still grant "health & safety" waivers this year due to Covid. We'll just have to see what happens. This situation is toughest for teams who expected two-time transfers to start and play 30+ minutes. The fact we have Ado and Ody softens the blow. But certainly it would be disappointing to have to waste a scholarship on a one year bench player sitting out a year, especially with another scholarship going to a walk-on.

It's also possible Koval may decide to move on from basketball, but it seems like he wants to get his masters degree, so might as well do it for free.

Some debate on the Goodman quote I posted, seems perhaps that rule won't go into effect until January and the NCAA may be more lenient this year.

It also sounds like we are still recruiting for this year. The rumor is we are looking to add another wing. Since we have no open scholarships, it seems like Wes knows something we don't. Lakhin being the obvious guy to look at.

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources...ver-guidelines

"The new guidelines will take effect for student-athletes in January 2022, for those who would be requesting a transfer waiver to compete immediately in 2022-23. Current guidelines will apply for student-athletes seeking a waiver to compete in 2021-22."

So doesn't that mean Koval would be eligible for this upcoming season as just a regular grad transfer?

Is Koval's transfer situation any different than Chris Vogt's? (as far as a double transfer?). Also, they are both able to return to their last team without counting against the scholarship total, right?

Brendel seems to think if previous school signs off on the waiver then it’s likely to get approved. Doesn’t seem concerned with Koval

What’s crazy is that we have two top 50 shot blockers on our roster now. Koval was 3rd in block rate and Ado is 42nd

On paper, defensive shot blocking Bearcat basketball is back.

That said after glancing at the synergy numbers Ody, Im a bit surprised how poor of a defender he is.

Which makes pairing him with Ado that much more important.

I really hope Lakhin is healthy enough to play, (tho most are doubtful he will stay). The fact that we have 2 strong interior post players (Ado and Oguama), complemented by 2 stretch 4 guys, (Koval/Lakhin),would give CWM tremendous flexibility in the front court.

Trey Wade or another strong Wing, would certainly be a satisfactory replacement for Lakhin, (if necessary).

that whole team was horrendous at defense last year. check his numbers the year before.

A lineup with Ody and Ado is going to be one of the worst offense lineups we've put together. When mick would have 2 non-scoring bigs (say jr year Brooks and Scott) he had guards that could fill it, and the 2 bigs never turned the ball over. This team doesn't have the guards for that and Ado is a turnover machine.

DDJ
Maw
Davenport
Ody
Ado

that will be rough on offense. Ado probably needs to play with Davenport at the 4, and Ody with Koval at the 5.
