Local to UC there is not much speed, GCL does not produce many scary fast athletes. Compared to the speed of the West Coast offenses, the style of offense played in Ohio is much slower. The individual speed of the recruits is not the problem, it's the playing style they grew up with and learned to play in.

While I agree that the current roster at UC did not exhibit much overall speed this last couple of years, I would not say that the rosters under Kelly and others was similarly lacking speed. There are plenty of kids in sourrounding areas, and within the GCL, that play uptempo styles and could adjust to college if given the chance. All you have to do is look about 100 miles away in several directions to see other colleges that aren't showing any problem with playing uptempo styles of offense and showing plenty of speed on the defensive side of the roster.

Any coach that we hire will have a minimal impact on the upcoming class. It's shot either way. So I could care less about that. You think if Luke Fickell gets the job some OSU recruits will flip to Cincy? No shot in hell. I want the best coach for the future of the program. I think Helfrich is an interesting candidate if we swing and miss on our top targets. Helped build Oregon. Went to a national championship. Won a Pac 12 championship. Dynamic offensive coach. Reputation as a great person off the field. Has to win in the AAC not the Pac 12. Don't think it's the best fit but certainly an interesting one. He'd be probably 5th or 6th on my list. However if we are left with our dicks in the wind and Helfrich is available I could stomach it. As for the recruiting ties I would be okay with giving Coombs the keys to the defense as DC. His recruiting alone would make it a gamble I'd be willing to take. So pair Helfrich with Coombs or whoever the head coach is with Coombs and I think that fresh influx will be a positive thing for the program.

What are everyone's thoughts on Lincoln Riley as a possible candidate?

There's literally nothing out there to make me think we're going to be moving on from Tubs.
