But to see what Brannen has been able to do in such a short time does make me wonder if Mick had given up (or maybe just stopped trying as hard) or if we were getting his best. In two month's Brannen has put together a better 2019 class than Mick did (the 2019 class for Mick was flat out awful).

I wish Mick would get a communications coach. This article wasn't his worse but the shit he says is just ridiculous at times. If the only thing that drives him is his daughter knowing she loves him, why take the job? And to say that his name would be on the court (instead of Ed Jucker's) if he had stayed is laughable. The man is so insecure.

I do think he is a good guy, so I hope he is able to have success, but I think he might have a hard time recruiting there. Yes, they are blue blood, but they also have to beat out the other blue bloods for those recruits and I don't think he can go up against Calipari, Mike K, Roy, etc. for recruits. Unless location plays a huge factor I don't see him getting the 5* recruits that he needs.
I, too, was a fan. Gotta wonder if he got bored or just frustrated that his “success” wasn’t appreciated. I think he’ll find the sledding at UCLA a bit tougher than anticipated. Trying not to take to it personally when he suggests that being at Cincinnati limited his ability to win, but only time will tell. Knowing he never reached out to Jaxson Hayes (and who knows who else) is frustrating. Not saying he commits, but you don’t know until you try. Mick’s perception of the program ultimately held the Bearcats back. CJB doesn’t seem to have the same pessimistic view point. It’ll be nice having a coach who doesn’t assume he has to concede a recruit before even trying.

I know it was Big East, but Mick had his better classes his first years. He fell off cliff lately though really doesn't matter at this point.

Chose UC over Kansas, UCLA, Oregon, Xavier, Ohio State & more
Did he hold all those offers at the end? Or did Kansas pull the offer? Due to legal issues?

Im with you. I liked mick but he did get annoying after a while. Always whining and making excuses. I still don’t mind him. I think he gets his guys to play hard and has a great defensive mind.
Having said that, if you leave the team I root for, I’m going to give you a hard time. That’s sports.

There were a couple of reasons Mick didn't recruit as much high end talent. By his own admission he didn't think he could get them to UC but he also didn't want to recruit over his projects. He didn't want grad transfers because he felt couldn't teach his system fast enough to them and it sent a bad message to other players on the roster at that position (his perception). He was probably right in a way that he couldn't get many of them to UC because of his style of play. It wasn't player friendly. But getting as many good players on your roster as you can should be a goal of any coach really. It kept turnover low but it limited overall potential (especially in March).

He talked himself into these things IMO and made them a self fulfilling prophecy.

I agree with this, I was 100% a Mick guy...…. but the last few classes have not been all that great in terms of recruiting. I was tired of the Mick excuses and all the BS that came out of his mouth. He never took the full blame, he said the fans were unappreciative of how much he won, I guess maybe that's true in a sense but again pretty bs statement. He blamed the early loss to Ohio State and Mississippi St on not having Jacob Evans saying "this schedule was made thinking Jacob Evans was going to be here". The dreadful East Carolina loss was blamed on officiating, the loss to Iowa in the tournament when Mick said Iowa was ranked more weeks than we were its crazy they are a 10 seed even when they got to play in Columbus, then he took one last jab at Cane and Justin saying its hard to win with guys "who you can look eye to eye with, but they have a lot of heart" Mick rarely ever said flat out I was out coached and they were just the better team tonight, he always had some bs excuse as to why he couldn't recruit certain players or win in the tournament.

He always said I only care about winning the whole thing, it doesn't matter what round we lose in. I think that is the line that pissed me off the most, either way I think a change was needed.

If we can assume the transfers out were inevitable, I gotta say Brannens first offseason from a bringing in players stand point is as good as realistically possible
