Reds are 29-28 against teams with a winning record and 29-12 against sub-.500 competition. A couple of things stand out. First, Washington (31-20) and Los Angeles (23-22) are the only other NL teams with winning records vs. .500 or better ballclubs. And, only Miami, Atlanta and Colorado have played more games against winning ballclubs than the Reds have.
They've won since Votto was out against poor competition.
I'm not saying they couldn't have beaten better competition, just making an observation.
Though, the premise of that argument leaves itself open to criticism. The qualitative standing of a sub .500 team, in terms of their play, is kind of ambiguous. One sub .500 team that's only off the mark by a game, probably isn't the same as playing someone like the Cubs.

Still, I was only oberserving what's been happening. It wasn't an attempt to bash the Reds.

Chapman limits the other team to 8 innings to get it done. If the Reds have the lead and the 9th inning comes around, fuggettaboutit.

What happened last night? After 3-0 it looked like another Reds win, then the roof caved in.

Really nice interview I found with Votto from last year. Barring injuries, how does this guy not end up in the hall?

I've heard Votto does some wicked workouts, here is a peek:

Votto is Votto... I see a key being can Scott Rolen be healthy down the home stretch? I actually think his time on the DL this year will be beneficial if he comes back ready to go in early September... he had been hitting the ball extremely well since the all-star break before this last stint out because of the back... I really think if he gets back and Joey has no more setbacks and makes it back at the start of September this team will be primed to play it's best ball of the year entering October. With the schedule, 100 wins is still possible.

Mike Leake is leaking oil.

Tough one tonight, "Homer" Bailey vs Cliff Lee.

Homer pitches well on the road. Of course, you could have said the same thing about Leake before last night.

It looks more and more like Leake is the odd man out in the playoffs. The big issue though, is when to pitch Homer. He is dominant on the road (2.92 ERA in 11 games) but it is obvious Johnny Cueto is #1 and Mat Latos is #2. In the Divisional series, for this year only, it is going to go 2 games to start on the road and 3 games to finish the 5 game series at home. So, if the Reds win the division and are at least the #2 seed overall, their first two games are on the road. Do you start Homer in game 2 and Latos in game 3 based on Homer's numbers? I think you have to.
