As the old saying goes, "Wright State- wrong college". Why are we scheduling games with WSU and University of Toledo? In particular we are playing these schools in a period of time when UC is vulnerable in basketball. Why risk the chance of losing to the mid-major schools in the state? UD already kicked our behinds at the Shoe last year. Is UC looking to go down another notch on the hierachy of basketball programs in the state?

Also, in an era when we can't get anyone to go to basketball games, do you think a game against Wright State is going to get people in Cincinnati to go to the games? Well, maybe the ones who went to WSU or some folks who drive down from Dayton.

Who do you want them to play? Let's be realistic here, we play a tough enough conference schedule that we don't have to schedule a crazy non-conference schedule every year. You have to find teams to play to fill the schedule. Look at it this way; we have been recruiting players from Dayton and Northern Ohio with little success lately. Playing these games gives the Bearcats a presence in other parts of Ohio where the coaching staff may be looking to focus. Even if we are only playing a team like Toledo at home, there will be TV coverage in Toledo. Selling out every game is great but that only happened once since Huggins was coach and that was Kenyon's Senior year. UC didn't even sell out Logan's senior year when the team was 31-4. Cincinnati is not a great sports town. Just look at the Reds. Attendance cannot be the only reason you are playing games. If this team starts winning, people will come.

It's a good move, especially for recruiting.

If anything our players will show an in-state team more respect because they might know some of the players and it being a closer proximity they won't want to lose. Playing a mediocre team from the other side of the country doesn't excite anybody. I believe there are several Wright State players playing in the Deveroes league this year on one of the teams. Players get up to play against guys they know. We're the better team/program so go out and show it. Plus as others have pointed out any in-state exposure helps in recruiting.

Is there any connection between Cronin and new Wright State head coach (kid in his mid 30s)? Maybe they know each other from camps back in the day and this is a favor?

Bottom Line: We should NEVER be going to Wright State to play a game........EVER!

We're not. We're going to Nutter as a neutral site. I am ok with this because of recruiting. It's not like we are playing them in their own gym. No biggie.

The Nutter Center is @Wright State. That's where they play all their home games. It is on their campus.

Why did I think that was the arena downtown? I thought Wright State had another gym. Thanks for the info. Still don't have a problem with it though.

The Dayton Bombers play their hockey games at the Nutter Center. Maybe that's what confused you. It is a nice arena, nicer than ours sadly considering it was built just a couple years after the Shoe.
