Games of Importance for the Resume

I think we're now far enough into the season where we have a decent idea of who our potential Q1 and Q2 opponents are. So, I will be tracking games with those teams involved along with their NET ranking. Unlike last year, we won't be able to see how the outcome affected NET immediately, since there's a delay of a couple days.

Thursday Jan 11

SMU (121) @ UConn (110)
7pm
No clear rooting interest. It would be nice if both of these teams can stay in the top 135.

East Carolina (230) @ Memphis (70)
9pm
I think Memphis staying top 75 is more important than ECU staying out of Q4.

UCLA (88) @ Oregon
9 pm

They both needed late comebacks, but Memphis and UCLA both won. UCLA erased a 9 point deficit in the final minute.

Pretty good night for the Bearcats. I wrote the UCLA game off late just like I almost wrote us off...LOL!

Good thread. Surprised to see that UCLA won. It'd be nice for them to get back into Q2 territory for us.

UCLA went 5 for 5 from three in the last couple minutes, and they made all three foul shots on another. Oregon fouled up by 3 with 2 seconds left. UCLA made the first, missed the second, got the rebound and putback. Everything went perfectly for them.

Saturday Jan 12

Ole Miss (28) @ Mississippi St (30)
1 pm
Miss St just needs to stay top 75 to be in Q1. Ole Miss is our "marquee" win.

South Florida (100) @ Temple (41)
2pm
We only play South Florida at home. Better to have more tourney quality teams in our league.

Ohio St (36) @ Iowa
2:30pm
Ohio St has fallen to Q2.

Tulsa (90) @ SMU (137)
6pm
No clear rooting interest. Tulsa is 15 spots away from Q1, SMU is just outside Q2.

Wichita St (130) @ Houston (9)
8pm
No clear rooting interest.

This may have been there a while, but Bart has a rooting guide for each day including not just what helps our resume, but also competing teams to get in the tournament.

I don't think Torvik's model has to do with what helps our resume. I think it's basically just rooting for teams near us in the rankings to lose. For instance, it wants Iowa to beat OSU, ECU to beat UCF, and LSU to beat Ole Miss. None of those make any sense.

Ya I think you're right. That's pretty weird otherwise.

I had never really paid any attention to it and just recently noticed the page for it.
