Gates Suspended-Not Playing Tonite

UC’s already difficult challenge today against Pitt has been made tougher by the suspension of junior forward Yancy Gates for violating team rules. Apparently, the suspension is the result of an incident in practice. At this point, the suspension is indefinite, with Gates and Mick Cronin scheduled to meet when they get back to Cincinnati. Gates did not make the trip. Considering that Pitt leads the nation in rebounding margin at +13.2, not having Gates and his 6.9 rebounds per game is obviously a huge blow. It looks as if Biggie McClain will start in Gates’ place. It will be McClain’s second start of the season and the fifth of his career.

If Gates (like Bishop) still needs a message at this point in his career, his career is seriously in trouble.

He should be one of the leaders of this team, yet he isn't. I hope he doesn't end up saying "If only I woulda, back when I played.."

I'm cautioning you do not be a spoon that stirs a negative pot. We will debate Mick Cronin's situation when this season is over. Till then it's about the present and this team.
