Florida lost about $2,000,000 going to the Sugar Bowl, they only sold about 5,000 of their 17,500 tickets. Should Florida get out of the SEC?

I second this, Username, virtually every school loses money on athletics.

BearcatMick is an unknown quantity at this point
Fsu has wanted out of the acc for the last year. This is nothing new. The b1g won't take them bc they aren't aau and the sec already has Florida. So it would be b12 when they leave

Collectively the Big 10 consumes approximately 40% of all federal research dollars and its members actively partner with each other to procure grants. The Big 10 estimates that Georgia Tech, by partnering with Purdue and Illinois, would receive an additional $1 billion dollars in research grants over the next 10 years.

Add to that the benefits of the Big 10′s CIC and it’s clear that any institution that values research would recognize the superiority of the Big 10 over the ACC.

Aside from the opportunity of increased research funding the Big 10 offers considerable advantages in athletics.

The Big 10′s current television deal with ESPN expires in 2016 and has averaged an annual payout of $24.6 million per school. The ACC’s deal with ESPN runs through the 2026 season and averages an annual payout of $16.9 million per school.

On the surface the revenue disparity is $7.7 million, but the Big 10′s television contract expires in 2016 and the conference expects to see a significant increase that will drive the revenue disparity only higher and higher.

Now, on top of that, consider the additional value provided by the Big 10 Network (BTN) and how that value can only increase with expansion.

The BTN is the most successful network of its kind. It generated $242 million in revenue for 2011 (2012 revenues are not yet available) and the share each school has received in the first five years of the network are slightly more than $34 million.

I work in the research department at uc and we would love to have a share of that grant money right now.

The Big East should have a new TV deal withiin 2 weeks, ESPN has one week to match the offer of NBC. Exposure rather than money is what the NBC offer is about. Big East football would be on NBC over the air along with the former Versus Channel. Also the NBC deal is going to allow Big East games on other networks such as CBS for games not picked up by NBC.

UC president sent video description of projected $70M stadium improvement, holiday cards to ACC Presidents, Cincinnati Enquirer reports

We are desperate to get out. How can NBC offer the BE any amount of money knowing that UC/UConn/USF want out at the drop of a hat

NBC can offer money to the BE because UC/UConn/USF have no where else to go. UConn has been rejected by the ACC at least 2 times, most probably they are being blackballed by BC, UC and USF have been rejected by the ACC at least once each.

You can want to get in the ACC all you want but if the ACC does not want you, you are not getting in.

Not true, if teams leave the ACC there is a clear pathway. It is a domino effect, and UC and UCONN are gonna have to wait it out. It could be next week or it could be 2+ years from now. Look what happened when Uc left C-USA-we were one of the last to be invited to the BE. Same thing is happening now, just gotta wait out the storm.
