Miami

The Bearcats and Redhawks face off on the hardwood for the first time in 10 years with Miami attempting to break a 31-year victory drought and 13-game losing streak in the rivalry.

Miami (KP #121) is looking to start 6-1 for the first time since the 97/98 season and will rely on an experienced core that aims to deliver the program its first 20-win season in over 20 years. Their current starting 5 came into this year with a combined 15 seasons of experience in the program.

Their AdjO is currently ranked KP #68 and they already boast an impressive OOC win at Georgia Tech (KP #67). They don't boast much size but they do have some athletes who will score on us with ease if we don't stay in front of them on defense.

If we are serious about having any shot at an NCAA bid in March, this is a game we must win.

Reduce ill advised shots, play great D and crash the boards. Simple recipe for a win.

We're 4.5 pt favorites. Torvik has us winning by 1.

Miami has only played four D1 games, but so far they are best in the country at taking care of the ball. They turned it over just 5 times in their last game, and only had 8 at Georgia Tech. Miami is also very good at the free throw line, shooting 83% - good for 7th nationally.

On the flip side they are bad at defending the three point line, coming in at #335. They gave up 15 threes in their loss to Western Illinois at a 54% clip (but at Georgia Tech they only gave up 4 of 17).

Miami plays a very small lineup, with four players who are 6'2 or shorter averaging 24+ minutes. The bulk of frontcourt duties go to players who are 6'7 or shorter. Despite a lack of size, they block shots and grab defensive rebounds surprisingly well. They shoot a lot of threes and give up a lot of threes.

This should be a game where we use our size. Georgia Tech's big man was 4-5 at the rim and had 13 rebounds. Whoever is playing the five should be able to control the paint. Only one of Miami's big men will step outside to shoot the three (Delonte Brown who is hitting 56% on the year). I'd expect to have Davenport on Brown when he's in the game.

Sounds like a game we can play Mikey at PG and DD at 2 without being undersized. Good game to see if that could work for extended minutes.

They are shooting over 50% and beating us on the boards. Something needs to change. What's the point of playing two 7 footers if neither of them can rebound or score on the interior?

Edit: At this point just put in whoever is actually going to grab a rebound.
