Diamonds in the Rough - Ohio

Defense: DE/OLB Ifeadi Odenigbo – 6’2 210 lbs. – 4.44 40 YD – Centerville HS

Offers: Stanford, Cincinnati, Toledo

Wait, hold on….4.44 40 time, there must be a misprint or another typical horribly misreported sprint time, right? Wrong. Anytime you’ve got a DE/OLB that can run down top ’11 QB Braxton Miller multiple times, you know speed is no issue. Ifeadi could also play at DE, where his speed and burst would excel. He runs the anchor on a state-qualifying 4x100 team and also does 100/300M hurdles, not bad for being 210 pounds!

The downside (or possibly upside, depending on how you look at it) is his rawness. He’s only played football for two years, so if you are looking for instant impact combined with great technique, look elsewhere. If you are looking for an incredibly high ceiling for a DE/OLB with freakish athleticism and NFL caliber speed, this is your guy. Anytime you deal with a kid from Centerville (Kirk Herbstreit, AJ Hawk, Michael Bennett, Mike Nugent, etc.) you are getting a well coached athlete.

Watching his film shows burst and speed that jump off the screen and double slap you in the face, we’re talking an elite level of both here. Combine that with a frame that is versatile and you create a plethora of options in using Ifeadi. Whether he’s strictly a situational pass rusher or a havoc wreaking OLB, he’s a valuable commodity for any top program. Notre Dame and Ohio State have been in contact and it’d be no surprise if both end up offering. Keep an eye on Ifeadi because if the old football adage of “if he puts it all together” comes true you’re looking at a future All-American.

Mentioned that one downside of UC is with the 4-3, he'd have to put on weight and not play his frosh year (all freshmen think they can play right away).

Hopefully that's not a serious consideration, as a 3-4 may give him a better chance to play sooner. BJ, get on the phone....

With his performance at the Nike SPARQ combine, Odenigbo is getting major interest. If he's really concerned with getting early PT then UC is going to be as good a place as any to get on the field. No way he sees the field early at Ohio State and likely not for a few years. We shift between a 3-4 and a 4-3 depending on the package and he could get reps right away IMO playing the hybrid role. I'm afraid with how high his stock is getting that he might be out of reach for us especially being from Centerville.
