'11 Germany Combo F Martin Bruenig
Currently enrolled at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy.
Bruenig is a 6-foot-9 forward from Germany who is still getting acclimated to life in the states. “He’s a Big East kid,” Clayton said. “He’s still adjusting to American basketball; it will take time. But the more people see him, the more they like him. From a potential standpoint, he’s definitely one of our most talented players.” Right now, Breunig has interest from Cincinnati, Marquette, Iowa State, Hawaii and USC, but one school in particular is standing out. http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2010...ademy-profile/ |

Martin Breunig – 6’9″, 205, SF, Leverkusen, Ger (SJNMA, Wi)
Martin Breunig of St. John’s NW Millitary Academy is somewhat new on the recruiting scene because he was in Europe all summer playing for his native Germany’s U18 squad. If you managed to see any FIBA ball this summer you might have seen him play, but what you would have seen is him playing as a PF instead of his preferred wing position. When he moves to the wing, he becomes a much more intriguing player due to his size and savvy. He has an excellent handle, and he keeps his head up in transition with or without the ball. Though he lacks physicality and overt speed, he more than compensates with excellent footwork, a good vertical game, soft hands and good balance. He also has a pretty stroke from midrange to the arc, as well as a soft touch on passes to and through the post. To top it off, Breunig has a knack for being in position for everything coming off the glass. His feet and size allow him to avoid the box out with great frequency. He needs to develop other parts of his game. He needs some work on man defense, and his help side vision needs to expand. His shot is good enough at this point that it could be a zone-buster by the time his prep year ends. He’s also surprisingly inconsistent at the line–surprising because of his nice touch from mid-range. And he needs to work on receiving and adjusting to contact in the lane instead of relying on up-and-under moves. All around, Martin is a project at this point. A year at SJNMA should change that outlook drastically, and his strengths can be exploited at the high major level as a role player. If he develops further, he can be an excellent contributor and even leader on that level. http://orangeexpress.wordpress.com/2...artin-breunig/ |

"Basketball wise, he’s far beyond fundamentally sound," Richert said. "In international and Europe basketball, it’s all fundamentals from day one. The one-on-one skills and all that stuff is never really taught over there. It’s all about team and fundamentals. So he’s far advanced fundamentally, more than any player I’ve seen out there.
"At the next level, he’s going to have to learn to go from fundamental to skill. Guarding someone in Europe is a 6-foot-5 kid that can shoot it. You just get your hands up (on defense). At this level, you go the Big East, they’re going to go right around you like you’re standing still. He’s going to have to adapt to the speed of the game and mental toughness." http://www.livinglakecountry.com/blo...104428499.html |

So if this kid's a Big East lean as it appears he is... and he's favoring one school as that NBE report says he is... and there are only two Big East schools on that initial list (Cincinnati and Marquette)... who's his favorite?

Buzz Wiliams has really made a push for both he and God's Gift. Word is that Buzz and God's Gift have built a strong bond thru their mutual religious beliefs that they are both very open about. I cannot say who is the favorite for Bruenig, but Marquette has been in his ear longer.

The buzz around Martin Breunig of SJNMA is… well… Buzz. Marquette is rumored to be on the verge of an offer to Martin. He’s a high major wing prospect who will only get better as the season wears on, so good for him.
More to come soon… http://orangeexpress.wordpress.com/ |

Does Marquette have multiple scholarships for God's Gift and Bruenig? It's really coming down to it and the pickings are getting slim.
