Marshall's settlement was for only half of his full buyout. The fact that he accepted the settlement means the administration's case was pretty strong. The fact that Brannen has not yet agreed to any settlement either means the administration's case is not very strong or Brannen is just bluffing, perhaps using a drawn out legal battle as leverage.

If we had big athletics boosters like Wichita (Charles Koch) or Indiana (Mark Cuban), I'm sure we would have fired Brannen already.

There is posturing on both sides that’s for sure

At this point it's obvious Brannen won't be the coach next year. If he is, then Cunningham has absolutely botched this and knee-capped the program.

So really all that's left to do is figure out how much UC is paying. UC has much more to lose from a drawn out legal battle. Brannen might be throwing away any chance of coaching again, but he can still retire a multi-millionaire. There's no reason for him to do anything other than let his lawyers loose now.

The administration had to know that's what would happen if they backed Brannen into a corner. I don't know why they didn't have some kind of PR strategy for this.

This smells like a railroad to me. Problem is if there is nothing solid on Brannen no coach worth his salt is going to come in here. Fans should be supporting Brannen until something solid materializes against him. We were all happy with the performance in the conference tournament and with how the young crop of Brannen recruits were developing. We have now turned on him without even a serious allegation let alone a shred of evidence.

Why is running a program where student welfare is number 1 a bad thing?

Should we let these complaints of CARA violations and a scared medical staff just go on with out investigation?

Somehow, after people reading these allegations which are likely not even the full worst of it, they still support John brannen.

Cunningham did not ruin this program. John Brannen's actions did. Literally what choice did Cunningham have? to just ignore it?

Why did the shit ad wait until after the season if it was so egregious? News flash, they wouldn’t. Or the ad is complicit.

Really shouldn’t be too hard to verify the claims against Brannen. Plenty of people should be able to corroborate that story if it’s true.

But if that is the story, it seems confusing this is taking so long.

Also not really sure how he got suspended today unless it’s retaliation for the story yesterday coming out. Every bit of this entire situation is horrendous. Nobody will come out clean.

Justin, I think the gist is that to this point, they’re
still just allegations.??

Interesting I did not mention Cunningham. That said, this may not be a railroad, it may be the University doing due diligence which would make sense with multiple student complaints no matter how baseless. Under that scenario Brannen would be back. Unlike you I have not read about alleged CARA violations. The only allegation I have read is that a player “lost his love for basketball”. As for medical personnel, being “scared”, that does not mean much. Who is this person? Many of those are grad students in sports physical therapy or similar field who do not know a whole hell of a lot at this stage of their career so being “scared” is not ground for firing.
