college refs need to be held accountable

It's amazing to me that college refs are not ranked and graded on their performances.

The state of officiating is flat awful.

It's amazing how much better nba refs are. They are fantastic.

One word to describe them. Inconsistent.

What happened today should never happen. Then I couldn't believe how the announcers were saying how great of a job Teddy did not T'ing up Cronin.

At least watch the game guys.

there are still some known nba refs that are very bad just like there are known college refs that are really bad (teddy, burr, and others).

1) More established pro players get favorable calls. There are numerous videos on Youtube of refs mic'ed up that confirm this.

2) NBA coaches don't behave the same way college coaches do. If you yell the way Mick did today, he would've been thrown out.

3) They need to get rid of the subjectivity on calls. I'm in favor of significant modifications to the charge call. I am also in favor of calling it a foul EVERY time two hands are put on a guy driving to the rim. If you aren't straight up defending a shot, it should be a foul. We shouldn't leave so much for the refs to decide...

I won't pretend to be an expert on the subject, but as far as I understand it college refs don't really get paid alot. It would be better to have them be full-time employees or contractors that would have to go through some sort of regular training. In reality this would probably be a near impossible feat. There are 350 or so D1 teams, plus D2 and D3. I wonder how many refs there are floating around out there. The NBA has what, maybe 50-60 refs that are probably compensated much better and holding them accountable is much easier. With that said, I completely agree that there needs to be a more clear definition of the rules and when refs don't follow these guidlines they should be somehow held accountable. When a question comes up the conference has to answer what happened and never the refs. An example was in the UC-Illinois game where the Big Ten came out and said the refs made the wrong call on the TD they took away. Well great, but what was done about it?

Now at the same time I think college coaches need to be held more accountable for their actions in games. I love Cronin, but he goes above and beyond at times to me in his actions towards the refs. And unfortunately that is not only accepted but almost encouraged in college basketball. Cronin has gotten better and he definitely isn't the worse and probably not even worse than the average coach out there. The reason you don't see NBA refs doing such things is it isn't tolerated. MLB is the only pro sport that really allows it's coaches or managers in this case to act like children to the officiating.

Honestly wasnt really talking about today.... I hate watching random college games. It's wrong call after wrong call. The refs truly effect outcomes at the college level.

There needs to be a system in place to rate officials per there game.

Just saw Sportscenter. Cronin said he has a good relationship with Valentine and that's why he wasn't T'ed up. BTW, no coach should have to be restrained by his players NOR should they ever shove their assistant......EVER !
