Louisville
Just a week ago, Louisville was ranked #1 in the nation. After their third straight loss today, I was curious to see what their resume looked like. They will probably get more deference because they are Louisville and people believe they are good. However, objectively, if we are a 5 seed right now, it is difficult to see why Louisville should be higher than a 5 seed as well. Here's the breakdown:
Cincinnati Record: 16-4 Big East: 4-3 Vs Top 100: 7-4 Best Wins: Marquette (18), Oregon (21), Iowa St. (41), Pittsburgh (49) Losses: New Mexico (6), Syracuse (8), Notre Dame (49), St. John's (53) RPI: 22 SOS: 13 Louisville Record: 16-4 Big East: 4-3 Vs Top 100: 7-4 Best Wins: Missouri (25), Connecticut (28), Memphis (46), Kentucky (65) Losses: Duke (1), Syracuse (8), Georgetown (42), Villanova (58) RPI: 12 (not including Georgetown loss) SOS: 12 Like I said, very similar. I'm assuming we'll zone Louisville and they will have a tough time scoring on us. And on the other end, we'll struggle to score against them. Probably very similar to the Syracuse game.

Its January, 11 games and a conference tournament remain to be played before anyone gets a seed number.

It's one thing to stand in the paint, it's another to play in the paint.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about UC. But........the bigs have to play some offense to free up the other guys. I still go with posting up high and low like we did late in the Syracuse game if that's what it takes. All they really need are touches as long as they don't turn the ball over. The bigs have to finish just like Christmas did under the basket. Didn't do much else offensively, but he only played 13 minutes. Just glad to see Syracuse and Louisville bumped off today, but we have to play both the victors of those. No runaway team in the Big East anymore. It's wide open. |
