Land O’ Lakes quarterback Stephen Weatherford had a good weekend in Orlando as he took part in the EA Sports Elite 11 quarterback regional camp.
“He looked like he definitely belonged,” said Land O’ Lakes coach Matt Kitchie, who accompanied Weatherford to the camp. “He’s a different quarterback than some of those guys. Like (Jefferson’s) Quentin Williams has a majorly strong arm, whereas Stephen has the deep ball and he has touch. He looked good. He looked like he belonged with the top group out there and we’ll see how the results come out of it.” Entering the camp, Weatherford has received written offers from the University of South Florida and East Carolina University. He’s also got a host of other school interested, only they have yet to put it in writing. As a junior, Weatherford, who missed one game, led the Gators to a district runner-up spot and their 13th consecutive playoff appearance. In the process, the younger brother of former Florida State signal caller Drew Weatherford and former Central Florida QB Joe Weatherford, completed 128 of 206 passes for 2.052 yards, 27 TDs and 5 interceptions. Depending how the camp evaluators grade Weatherford, he could be eligible to participate in the national Elite 11 event, a four-day event in Southern California, which will take place later in the year. Past Elite 11 participants include: New York Jets rookie Mark Sanchez, Tennessee Titans’ Vince Young, Detroit Lions rookie Matthew Stafford and Florida QB Tim Tebow. http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sp...ke-he-belonged |

WESLEY CHAPEL - Land O' Lakes football star Stephen Weatherford was one of four juveniles arrested Friday on suspicion of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft from a dwelling.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon, Weatherford, 17, was booked into the county's juvenile facility March 26 at 7 p.m. and was released to his parents the following morning at 10:20 a.m. "Stephen was one of four boys accused of taking a radio from a porch," Weatherford's attorney Frances Perrone said. "He has not been formally charged and we are seeking additional information on the case. "Stephen spoke frankly with law enforcement and is accepting responsibility for his actions. He understands the severity of the charges and right now this is the main concern." When reached for comment, State Rep. Will Weatherford, Stephen's older brother, and Land O' Lakes football coach Matt Kitchie would not go into specifics of the case. "I love my brother Stephen and he's a 17-year-old kid and sometimes 17-year-olds make dumb decisions," Will Weatherford said. "Hopefully this is one he will learn from. We are confident that the process will work its way through and we're going to let the process work its way through before we comment on the specifics of the case." Perrone said the case will take some time to run its course in the legal system. Because the state attorney's office is inundated with cases, it could at least a week for this case to be opened in the state attorney's system. From there it has to be assigned to a prosecutor. In general it could take four weeks to several months for the outcome to be determined. Stephen Weatherford follows in a long line of Weatherford brothers, who have attended Land O' Lakes and played football for the Gators. Of the six brothers, he is the third quarterback of the group, which includes former Florida State passer Drew Weatherford and former UCF QB Joe Weatherford. Many say he's the best QB of the group. Weatherford, a junior, has been seen as a hot commodity in the college football ranks. He's already received scholarship offers from USF, East Carolina University, and Iowa State. He's garnered interest from several other universities as well. "No matter if it's the quarterback or the left tackle, any time a player gets in trouble it is a strain on the program," Kitchie said. "The most important thing is we are here as educators and we want to teach these kids that, No. 1, they have to stand up for their responsibilities; and No. 2, do the right things. When they don't do the right things they stand up and take responsibility for those things. Hopefully Stephen's incident will not only help Stephen, but kids who come behind him to know that stuff is not tolerated." This past season, Weatherford completed 128 of 206 passes for 2,052 yards, 27 TDs and 5 interceptions. As a sophomore, he completed 94 of 158 passes for 1,254 yards, 10 TDs and seven picks. His freshman year, a season in which he split time at quarterback, Weatherford completed 49 of 91 passes for 648 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. http://suncoastpasco.tbo.com/content...rrested-burla/ |

South Florida badly needs depth at quarterback, and the Bulls just got a commitment from an in-state signal-caller.
Stevie Weatherford, who's from Land O'Lakes, Fla., told the Bulls of his decision on Friday morning, according to the St. Petersburg Times. If the name sounds familiar, it's because he's the younger brother of former Florida State quarterback Drew Weatherford. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder threw for 2,052 yards and 27 touchdowns with just five interceptions as a junior. He was also considering Cincinnati and East Carolina and had drawn some interest from South Carolina. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast |

I wonder if he and Coyne will both still be quarterbacks down the road... both seem like very athletic guys capable of playing multiple positions.

I wouldn't be surprised if Coyne doesn't play QB. I've heard from some area HS coaches that he's a bit overrated at a QB but has a defensive/LB type toughness.
