I believe after Mick lost out on Teague and Behanen, then Lawrence not working out, he was completely turned off by the one and done/5 star player. He doesn't want to waste his time and energy to recruit a player for several years only to have a blue blood sweep in, in the last minute and get the guy. Or have the player come to campus and disrupt team chemistry for one year. Mick has tried to get recruiting down to a science and it is working really well for him but I think this Gaffney situation is showing a limitation in his recruiting philosophy. Or maybe Gaffney told UC he doesn't have much interest.

But I do believe you need these type of players to make it far in the tournament. As someone mentioned earlier look at Demarr Johnson the Kenyon year. Heck look at Zach Collins last year at Gonzaga.
Collins is an example of a one and done I wouldn't mind getting. I don't think he went into Gonzaga thinking he'd be out that fast, did he?

I am not saying we wouldn't want to take those players. But their is a big risk in spending so much time and effort recruiting players you have very little chance of landing.

In his case I think Hard work met opportunity.

High risk, high reward. Honestly, this program isn’t in s position to get these players. Especially in today’s landscape. We aren’t in a big conference and the players coming in, don’t remember us being really good. I would like to see us step it up a notch, to maybe getting 2 top 100 type guys a class instead of the 1 we have been getting.

I agree. And I think one of the guys need to be top 50, maybe every other class. Like a Jarron Cumberland every other class would be great.

I don’t see our recruiting changing much until we make a run or two in the tourney. Like it or not, the tournament means a lot. We see what it did for huggins. A final 4, and 2 elite 8s and we started getting some of the best talent in the country.

I what high level guys, not guys who on foot in college and the other in the nba.

Don’t bring up any bob huggins teams; last I checked he hasn’t won a championship and mostly falters early in 80% of tourneys he’s in.

We aren’t a one and done school. We had a one and done player and how did that work ? Just don’t think it will work in our system
Are we talking about Huggins' UC teams or his current WVU teams? His WVU teams have been doing damn good since he's been there. Better than us during the same period.

I want high four and five star players. Period. Quite honestly I don't think those players want to play here or we don't have the recruiters to get them here. Besides when we have had them we haven't had a lot of success getting them exposure and/or in the NBA. (See. McClain, Biggie; Gates, Yancy; Lawrence, Jermaine) our UA deal doesn't help.

What is your definition of "damn good"? He made a final four and 3 sweet 16's but also missed the tournament and went to the NIT. He has only won the conference tourney once and never won the regular season. So, while it's better than Mick not really head and shoulders above Mick.
