'11 FL PG Shane Larkin
2011 PG: Shane Larkin
5'11" 160lbs Orlando, Florida Dr. Phillips High School Rivals 4*; 96th overall for 2011; 21st ranked PG Offer: No. Other offers: Clemson, George Mason, South Florida, TCU, UCF, VCU http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75...=1&nid=4430183 http://rivals.yahoo.com/cal/basketba...e-Larkin-98676 Orlando Dr. Phillips point guard Shane Larkin is one of the top 2011 prospects in Florida. Larkin, 5-10, 160, is the son of former 12-time MLB All-Star Barry Larkin, and is coming off a solid sophomore season as he averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game earning team MVP honors as the Panthers went 27-3. There are over a dozen schools tracking Larkin, who plays with the Florida Assault/Showtime Ballers during the summer. Miami, Alabama, Clemson, South Florida, South Carolina, George Mason, Florida State, Cincinnati, VCU, Kansas State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, and Central Florida are paying close attention to the sharpshooter. http://blog.northstarbball.com/2009/...ted-miami.aspx Larkin is a scoring point guard who is always pushing the ball in transition, which places pressure on the defense. He will go coast to coast for the layup or stop and shoot a pull-up 3-pointer. In the half court, he can play well in a two-man pick-and-pop game; he can drive the lane with quickness or shoot behind a screen. He needs to utilize his floater more often when he gets in the lane and to develop a strong dribble pull-up jumper. At times, he overpenetrates and leaves his feet and that's when he gets in trouble with a turnover or bad shot. We know he can score and he must continue to hone his ability to create for his teammates and demonstrate that he can run a team with his scoring ability. You can easily see he enjoys the game and loves to compete. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recru...ory?id=4363230 Yes, he is the son of Cincinnati Reds great, Barry Larkin. |

March 11, 2010.
Three area juniors who are all high-level major college prospects, Austin Rivers of Winter Park, Shane Larkin of Dr. Phillips and Virginia Tech commit Robert Brown of Clermont East Ridge, are among 11 players on the ballot for the Dairy Farmers Class 6A boys basketball Player of the Year honor. Rivers orally committed to Florida coming out of his freshman season, and has said that still counts. But he visited Duke in September and acknowledges that he is also considering the Blue Devils with a lot of time to think about his decision between now and the November signing period. Larkin still seems to be wide open, with his offer sheet growing all the time. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/spo...arsity+Blog%29 |

The Mason Bench
By: Josh Holman February 15, 2010 One of the highest ranked prospects according to the recruiting services that Mason is involved with for 2011 is Shane Larkin. Larkin is a 5'11" PG from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida. Larkin is ranked the 21st best PG is the 2011 class by both Rivals.com and Scout.com. Recently, Brian Snow from Rivals.com talked with Larkin. Here is some of what Larkin had to say: In terms of recruiting, there are numerous schools showing Larkin attention. "It has been going good," he said. "I am hearing from Clemson, California, Minnesota, Harvard called, Virginia, Georgia, USF, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, VCU, George Mason, UCF, Georgia Tech, and some others." Out of those schools, Larkin has offers from Clemson, South Florida, VCU, George Mason, and Central Florida. Larkin has said that location does not matter in his decision. He's looking for a place where he can play early and a team that fits his style of play. When asked what his style of play was, Larkin replied: "Right now definitely an up tempo style fits me the best, pushing the ball on offense, and trapping on defense," he said. "Basically just somewhere that will let their point guard penetrate and kick." http://www.themasonbench.com/2010/02...-pg-class.html Shane Larkin Still Wide Open By: Chris Hayes April 30, 2010 Dr. Phillips junior Shane Larkin told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday his recruiting remains wide open. “There really isn’t a top school,” Larkin said. UCF was one of the schools that was recruiting Larkin before the Knights went through a coaching change. Former coach Kirk Speraw was courting Larkin. Donnie Jones, UCF’s new coach, was not courting Larkin while he was at Marshall. Larkin did not to rule out the hometown Knights. He said he will watch them and see how they do next year before making any big decisions. While he isn’t naming any favorites, Larkin said he is interested in playing at a high-profile school. “I’m more leaning toward a high D-I college,” he said. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/flo...ill-wide-open/ Last edited by BearcatAlum1; 04-03-2010 at 11:55 AM. |

Playing very well for Florida Assault was Shane Larkin. Back in the state of his birth, Larkin had it working. The 5-foot-10 point guard was an absolute problem off of high ball screens either beating his man to the rim where he showed an ability to finish, or simply stepping back off the screen and making shots. Also Larkin showed an ability to finish in the mid-range using great body control. Beyond that he showed a much greater desire to defend.

I suspect that if Michigan came calling, he will put them high on his list, since Barry is a Michigan alum and since Michigan has been more of a presence at Dr Phillips as far as football goes. I am not sure if his is even a football player, but his father was, I believe, and you never know, the Michigan pipeline Rich Rod is developing at that school could intrigue prospects in other sports to at least look at Michgian. But I am not too sure Michigan will even come calling since Beilin only recruits people who fit that sink or swim spread n shred, but more spread, system of his and Shane Larkin doesnt seem like that type of player, by reading the info in this thread about him.

Larkin is hearing from colleges across the country. However, there seems to still be some that are in a wait and see mode because of his switch from sg to pg. Shane shoots the ball well and has a knack for getting to the rim. a story right now of a kid with alot of talent who is small in stature. He only has offers from UCF, Clemson, George Mason, South Florida, and VCU.
