1. It's possible to be concerned without overreacting.

2. They played by all accounts a good team that has done similar things in years past to quality teams.

3. No one here watched the game.

4. It sounds like the defense was horrible, but there's literally zero reason to not expect that to be fixed. Say whatever you want about Cronin, but year in and out we defend at a high level and I'm sure we will again this season, even though we'll undoubtedly take steps backwards without Clark and Evans.

5. I'm concerned what our spacing is going to look like if we run a 5 man lineup of

JJ, Cane, Cumberland, Scott, Brooks.

That's 3 of the 5 players being non shooting threats outside of 15 feet. And it's tiny on the perimeter which isn't ideal for the defense. The best teams try to not have a single guy like that in the lineup, and good teams rarely more than 1 which is usually a picknroll rim running big man. Our starting lineup has 3. Manage expectations unless some of the other guys step up massively.

Nothing to see here. Carleton is good. Bottom line. Rules are different in Canada and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that they can practice all year long. They were 25-1 last year. No biggie to lose...

This trip is about building chemistry and getting the new guys accustomed to playing with the vets. All kinds of line-ups are used. Defense hasnt been stressed yet.

Look at it as a pickup game. We could play ten times and split or lose the series 3-7...doesnt matter.

No concern on my part.

We have guys that are stepping into a new role and thats not something you just "get" for the most part.

The extra ten practices and learning to play together within the system are the key components to this trip. Final score means jack.

Moving along.

Personally I expected a loss. Kinda wish it was closer though. But it can only help moving forward to have the team get their butts whooped when it doesn't matter.

I agree with a lot of this. I am not concerned with this loss and I am not concerned about whether we can play D or not. I am concerned about what will happen when Cumberland gets the best defender every game. Where will the scoring come from? I think Broome will be able to manufacture some points with his play making ability. Outside of that who knows.

If I am scouting us I sag on Williams. I play tight on Moore out past the arc. I would not double either of our post players and I don't follow either of them to the 3 point line. I probably let Fredericks try and beat me off the dribble.

I think a guy like Logan Johnson can help us but we can't play with him Jenifer and Broome on the court. Diara could help us drag a defender out of the lane but who knows if he will be ready to contribute in a big way.

We are going to see a few nights in the 40's this year IMO.

I am already on the LoJo train! In limited highlights he looks smooth, confident, aggressive and looks to be a good crisp exterior passer as well as a good entry passer.

Last year was our year to have a serious chance in contending for a national title, everyone knew once Evans went pro this would be a down year for us. Making the NCAA tournament would be a success for this team imo, unless diarra has improved to the point where he is KD it’s gonna be a long season.... I hope I’m wrong.

I have a hard time believing this year will be any worse than Caupain's JR year when we were an 8 or 9 seed.

Our schedule is very favorable for us as well due to the majority of our big games being at home. Are we more confident this year than last year of making the final 4 - NO way but just making the tournament is special and anything can happen. I mean the year we lost the heartbreaker to St Joes (Caupain's Jr. Year), St. Joes was so close to upsetting #1 seed Oregon the next round. As we learned this year, seeds don't always matter.

I really believe that in the middle of August last year, our team could have easily been beat by this Carleton team.

That Caupain team was better at 4 of the 5 starting positions than this one. Caupain is a massive upgrade at PG, Cobb/KJ >= Broome/Williams/Moore, Cumberland > Evans/Shaq, Clark a massive upgrade at PF, Ellis/Deberry a massive upgrade at C.

I dont know how anybody thinks this is a better team than that one.
