Cronin will return next year

I just talked to UC athletic director Mike Thomas, who confirmed that Mick Cronin would return next season for his fifth season as head coach. “Coach Cronin is our coach now and he’ll be our coach next year,” Thomas said.* “I’m committed to seeing Cincinnati basketball be the best it can be. Cronin to return next year

It comes to no surprise- Just passing it along.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2010/...urn-next-year/

I just talked to UC athletic director Mike Thomas, who confirmed that Mick Cronin would return next season for his fifth season as head coach.

“Coach Cronin is our coach now and he’ll be our coach next year,” Thomas said. “I’m committed to seeing Cincinnati basketball be the best it can be. The university is behind coach Cronin and the team.

“I’m an impatient person and I know the Bearcat Nation is impatient, but I think the needle is headed in the right direction.”

After this season, Cronin has four years remaining on his contract.

(Got this from another site-thought id pass it along)

I think it's a smart decision. Letting Cronin go now would only hurt our recruiting.

Good decision. I think we are headed in the right direction we just need to be patient. Next year is a big year however, and if he somehow lands a top 10 class for 2011 we prob need him to stay that year no matter the outcome of next season. (which will be an NCAA year)

With what I expect to return next season, I did not have high hopes for next season anyway. Seeing how UC can barely afford to pay their electric bill, it makes sense to keep MC around rather than pay him $1.5M to sit at home and pay another guy to coach.

I just hopes this does not set the program back too far. If they think attendance this year is bad, wait til they get a load of what happens next year. Maybe they should consider moving the games to one of the local HS gyms?

This is 100% the right decision. Kudos to Thomas for seeing past the negativity and looking into the future.

Hopefully all Bearcat fans, despite your personal feelings, will get on board and support the team. I think you will find that you will be rewarded sooner than you think.

Everyone knew this would be the decision. What a terrible time to announce it tho, imo.

Not that I disagree, but why do you believe this?

Him returning was a forgone conclusion. It was also done for recruiting purposes.
