I just read that the pic of him talking to Davenport was actually pre game and not post game... Again what you said stands, people see what they wanna see and it cuts both ways.

Houston works hard, but that's only a part of why they're elite. They worked hard four years ago but weren't that good. They have great players now. They shot an incredible 17-25 from midrange. Those are NBA numbers. Plus the nearly 50% from three and 24 assists. Those elite stats come from skill, awareness, vision, and focus. On the toughness side, they only outrebounded us by 6 and were just 9-18 at the rim. We had more blocks than they did.

We clearly have a lot to improve to get to where Houston is. Simply giving more effort or being tougher isn't going to cut it. I'm happy with what I saw from the team this weekend though. The young guys showed a lot to build on.

You’d think with all the out toughness talk that they would have out rebounded us by more than 6. Especially since we missed 100 shots. They aren’t going o shoot like that again. I guarantee that

Chaney and Tyson are also transfers, not starters though.

Yahoo, has it 35-31 rebounds. The “toughness” stats don’t really say we were out “toughed “. The overall stats say they were better at bball

Half of their 10 regular players are transfers, and you can tell what Sampson wants by looking at their numbers from where they started. Jarreau had an assist rate of 37. Gorham had an OReb rate of 12, DReb rate of 22, and a true shooting percentage of 58. Tyson shot 41% from three on 224 attempts. Chaney had an OReb rate above 10 and a true shooting percentage of 65. Even as younger players on bad teams, they were all putting up elite stats in either shooting, rebounding, or passing. Grimes is the only one who struggled but was a top level recruit at KU. Sampson has done an excellent job at fitting all of those pieces together.

Yahoo might not be including team rebounds (usually ball knocked out of bounds). ESPN and Torvik have 41-35.

No amount of toughness can overcome 24 assists for Houston compared to 18 made shots for us.

I’m just saying the transfer market can be just as good as recruiting hs guys if you know what you’re looking for

Agreed. And it kind of goes against the culture argument. He's piecing together individual elite skills in overlooked players into a cohesive roster. It's more Moneyball than culture.
