The more I think about this, the more I like Scott Nagy. He had a great run at South Dakota St, bringing them up from D2 and making 3 NCAA tournaments in his last 5 years there. He has finished 1st or 2nd in his conference 7 of the last 8 years, the only exception being his first at Wright St.

Enfield was not an established coach. He had one good year. That's why I'm looking for sustained success. In a small sample of a few years or less, a team can easily be successful in spite of the coach rather than because of him.

Coaches can also come from nowhere. Brad Stevens. My point is you never know. I don’t think anyone should be ruled out. But that’s just my opinion

No, didn't say that. All I said is former players usually sound exciting...but i've yet to see one that i've been impressed with.

Agree, it usually doesn’t work but doesn’t mean it can’t. I do think he could get guys to stay and would be more likely to get better players with his nba experience. But yeah, I have no clue if he can coach. I haven’t studied his history

Everything ive heard and read is he is highly thought of in the grizzlies organization. Now former players have gone to twitter to lobby the hiring of Van Exel or Erik Martin.

The other thing is so much of being a head coach has nothing to do with what happens on the court...dealing with administrators, alumni, the community at large, the families of potential recruits etc. No idea if NVE can handle any of that - that's why I would prefer someone with head coaching experience.
