Something going down?

Big East Presidents ask commissioner to resign....

Two reasons:

A) Want someone to negotiate big TV deal and didnt think John was cutting it

B) More teams have left or decided not to join

I think the BE split will happen soon now.

Its clear that this marriage between bball only schools and football schools is not working

I agree. It hasn't worked for quite awhile, Marinotto should have "stepped down" long ago.

I'm not so sure one thing has to do with the other. This is about money and the BCS. The presidents of the universities aren't convinced Marinatto can land them the big money deal they covet. I think the real question to ask was if this was the current presidents pushing for this or the new presidents? Or maybe both?

Let me clarify my comment about the divide between football and basketball members. I get the rift there and how it has hurt the Big East. My only point was that I don't know if a new commissioner means a split between the two factions. It might but I don't think that is inevitable. In fact, I still think it is unlikely.

I think the rift is now at a tipping point. The Bball only schools have been pissed for quite some time, especially with the new members now being brought in.

The Big East main message boards are nervous as well

Hard to predict where this league will be. So many different things could happen

I wonder if President Williams taking the lead signifies that UC isn't going anywhere and will be committed to the Big East moving forward.

I think that is exactly what it means.

Where would UC go? ACC is the only thing that make sense but I dont think they are looking and I doubt they would go west.
